    😕

    didn’t think they’d ever gone but just saw this advert on TV. thought it a bit weird, is anyone likely to rush out and buy their kid a set of Mag wheels this close to christmas?

    <EDIT – I don’t watch much telly so maybe the ads old>

    Skyway never really went away. They just went out of fashion and serious riders realised they weren’t very good compared to proper wheels. Skyways will always be the coolest looking wheels ever made though.

    I saw that ad the otherday and thought it a bit odd, my old lilac tuff IIs were uber cool though, or at least I thought they were.

    I feel your pain mat – my dad wanted to get me some POS Puch bmx with OGKs for christmas and I refused it so I had to save up for my first bike with Skyways myself.

    My mum wouldn’t let me have a BMX.

    I blame my subsequent life of jeyness on that!

    I’ve got Dimplex 7 spokers on my Burner.

    Agreed, Skyways are the coolest wheels on the planet.

    GW they were always for sale on ebay as NOS in later sealed hub variants but yeah there marketing them again! :o.They always were the iconic wheels of BMX,and for good reason.
    Back in the mid 80s everything that came along didnt compete with them esp for skatepark riding,anyone who was a name at Livingstone rode with them, OGKs were heavier,Z wheels worked but not for long and Araya 1.75s on Suntour large flange hubs were good but couldnt take a thrashing,
    We all rode them with whitewall shopper tyres..mind them? :mrgreen:
    yeah…i welcome the return of the cult wheel! 😮

    I saved my paper round money but the Skyways were a little expensive so I got some nice white Aero Zytec Mags for my Burner instead. Think my parents threw that bike away, sniff 😥

    I remember washing cars, cutting grass and doing my mates paper round for a few months just so I could save up for a pair of Tuff IIs. Got a pair and a half in the end. Two rears (freewheel and coaster) in glorious white and a bottle of Jif to keep them clean.

    A few mates had Z-rims but they were way too flexy. We ended up using them on a homebrew sidehack with ‘interesting’ handling.

    I had a set of yellow tuff’s great untill the front wheel bearing cups broke, think there was a retro fit mod to repair but as i remember it cost as much as a new wheel.
