    Hi,

Currently running a shimano 105 chainring 52/36 11 speed on my commuter bike. I think it’s the 5800 model with the offset tabs.

I’ve just been looking for replacement rings but they are so expensive it’s the same price to buy a full crankset but I could then sell the crank arms.

    Am I missing something?

Are there any cheaper after market rings I could use?

    Thanks

Have a look at spa cycles, they do some own brand chainrings that are fine.

Your going to need something like a Specialites TA x110, and Spa don’t carry these yet (going on a search of their site)

If your looking at the cost, thinking that if you need to replace the inner & outer, a complete replacement maybe be cheaper, you need to shop around and work it out.

Got to wonder what your doing to need both on what is a fairly new crank, they haven’t been around that long.

2.5 years or so, thats easily over 20,000 miles for some people, seems a fair mileage to me.

32000km sounds like a decent life, suspect the arms are pretty worn by now (the current gen of Shimano cranks all seem to get arm wear)

Hope you planning on doing the chain/cassette at the same time.

Lol, yes, always do and sometimes I even treat the bike to new jockey wheels.

As above I probably could just change one of the rings but for peace of mind I change the lot and then I know I won’t have any problems.

I think I will just buy a full chainset and treat the bike.

Will an Ultegra inner ring do? I would have thought it was the same dimensions, and since it’s an inner ring any difference in colour should not matter.

Bike Discount for example sell them for 11 Euros, and you have the choice of other izes, e.g. 34t.

I note that Bike Discount sell both Ultegra and Dura Ace spare 11sp rings, but not 105, so maybe 105 spare rings are not available/widely offered.
