Hi all, I recently bought a Canyon Stoic 2 which has Suntour XCR 34 AirBoost forks with 140mm travel. I was thinking about upgrading them but am new to this. Is there a market out there for selling my current ones to raise some funds, and are they easy to get off? Any advice on forks or selling them would be great. Not sure which ones to upgrade to yet. Thanks.

Yes there is a market. Classifieds on here or ebay. Just price sensibly (remembering they are likely to be OEM spec rather than the same as an aftermarket model). The axle is part of the fork (your replacement forks will have their own axle). Removal and fitting if new ones is easy.

However what are you reasons for upgrading? Just because or are you hitting a limitation of the current forks?

classifieds section here. Pinkbike, Facebook market place, ebay.

They are the usual suspects. If you are unsure as to how to remove them, i am sure there is plenty of guides on youtube, or take it to your local bikes shop.

They should sell easily, price wise, no idea.

clean them, take good pics, include all details, including steerer length, which many people leave off, but is pretty important.

    almost like a stealth add?!

Why are you looking to upgrade? What is the problem you’re looking to fix by an upgrade? It may be a case of adjusting the various settings which is easier and cheaper than upgrading.

If you’re new to this, it’s always worth trying to find the limitations to the adjustment of your forks before hitting the button on new ones. Might help you make better buying choices for the new ones.

You could always ride them through the worst of the winter slop then swap them in the spring when you’ve got more idea of the level of abuse you’re going to be giving them.

Yes I think that’s a good plan….to keep with them and ride them. The reason for selling was that they have had a few dodgy reviews when going over small bumps etc and they felt a little unresponsive when I was out the other day (only ridden three or four times) so was thinking cut my losses and get more for them if they are newer rather than wait, but I don’t know how much to even price them for as I can’t find them online. Any ideas how much they are worth? Perhaps I should have got the Stoic 3 which has RockShox Recon Silver fork as people have said that is better. But as you say, I am new to modern forks and may need to wear them in/adjust/play around with them. I just noticed that adjusting the rebound didn’t really do much.

Spend some time setting them up with correct sag and rebound.
    Plenty of youtube videos.

I’d keep riding them if I were you, it can take months to get new forks set up to their best with little setup changes here and there. I think youd be pretty disappointed by how much you’d get for selling them and the cost/availability of alternatives.

If you do swap them, make sure you remove the crown race from the old forks and fit it to the new forks. If you don’t know what a crown race is, you need to look at some guides on fitting forks and headsets.

I haven’t tried the XCRs. I have some Suntour Epicons on a hardtail. They are reasonable XC trail forks. I think the XCRs have steel stanchions, so they’ll be heavier. I’m not sure about the damping. Those cheaper Suntour forks have pretty basic damping, which is fine for XC trail riding, but not up to rough, fast descents. Problem is, to do significantly better, you’ll be looking at spending a large proportion of what you originally paid for the bike.
