Wrecker the no knock on wasnt in the act of scoring so ref had to make his own call for me he got it wrong like the video ref last week. Harsh on scotland but lack of basic skills was the fault this week. Learn to pass!!
Unlike our friends who kick the round ball about, perhaps we should merely follow the example of the guys in the pitch. So when de Luca was sin-binned, did we see a Rooney or Terry-esque set of histrionics or a polite acceptance that the referee’s decision is final.
Duckman the differences are phillips was near the mark, lamont wasnt he was near the mark for the scrum, also the ref wasnt trying to bin anyone and no subs were being bought on and finally the clock was stopped. As for the knock it wasnt in the act of scorung. Ffs you are supossedly a ref!!!
I think if you look at the posts i’ve ever made you will see what a pessimist i am. Winning at twickenham is tough but to do it without a lineout is next to impossible. England will improve. Be intresting to see how farel copes with the welsh midfield.
All wales have to do is get those backs running at catflap and it’ll be an extravaganza. I’ve been impressed with Farrells game including his tackling.
If Wales can keep up with the English pack they will win. If your pack plays like it did in the first half then England will strangle the life out of Wales.
England will try to make it a forwards game as they always do and who can blame them? The Irish pack was better at the Aviva and the Scots gave us a bit of a mauling. If England can slow the ball down at the breakdown, prevent quick ball getting to Phillips then Wales will struggle. You also have to look at Flood and Manu getting fit for the game.
Having said that, I’ll echo the comments of a certain Matt Dawson on Scrum V on Sunday night – on their day, Wales can beat any team in the world. Wales are more than capable of putting 20-30 points on England, winning the Triple Crown and getting in with a shout of the Grand Slam, but we have to get the forwards to play their game and not get bogged down by the spoiling game I’m sure England will try to play.
Wales have played well, and to their strengths. However, so far they’ve played like that with opposition weakness against them.
That Ireland midfield defence was the worst that it’s been for at least 10 years. North, Roberts,JDavies had a field day.
Against Scotland, they took full advantage of the sin-bin period and ran through more holes in midfield, plus a mismatch of about 4stone and 10″ where Cuthbert steamrolled Laidlaw (who apart from that was very impressive).
I’m not saying England are better than Ireland or Scotland, but they can be stronger in the important areas opposite the Welsh backs (when Hodgson’s dropped). A midfield 10, 12, 13 of Farrell, Barrit, Tuilagi would be the biggest tackling opposition they’ll have faced. If they stop the Welsh before the gain line there, it’ll be interesting to see if Wales have a plan-B. They’ve been excellent at support running off the ball carrier in behind, but might not have that option.
The Welsh lineout has been poor, and kicking infield could play into the hands of Foden, Ashton, Strettle who have an edge in experience and positioning (England’s only experience edge). The Welsh scrum won’t have it all their own way either, the English front row has been one of their better points.
Wales are the better team, but England look set up to nullify that and make the game very slow and scrappy, and could end up taking this one by a penalty or two (no tries for them without Hodgson’s faceblocks).
No mention of Phillips and the “pass at a retreating man” or “man running slowly through the 9 10 channel”.
I’m bored of watching so many forwards retreat to their lines up the 9/10 channel effectively slowing the attack, especially as the timing seems so spot on. Everyone does it why not penalise them? or just have a weekend of 9s hitting the retreating man with the ball.
Mildly ironic that Philips got a penalty but when Blair ran into a retreating man he was waved on (not bitter, oh no not me).
A midfield 10, 12, 13 of Farrell, Barrit, Tuilagi would be the biggest tackling opposition they’ll have faced
true, but who’s your money on? Look at the defensive play of our backs…look at the stats of tackles made as a team. IF the ball flows to the backs, I don’t think England will have the stamina and will look a lot like the Wales team of the early-2000s – a 60 minute team.
I’m not saying they are unfit – far from it. I just think that the Welsh fitness will be too much for them.
I did RTFP (Calm down, dear, it’s just a forum!) and wanted to amend it properly reflect the “Again” element, given his rather poor record on these things.
Dont think the welsh mifield will be worried about the physical confrontation with barritt and tuilagi. Pretty sure they have faced more formidable opposition. As for baritt isnt he just tindal with hair? Botha is another one i dont get debut at 30 and doesnt look to have much promise, aw jones light imo.
I’m calm capt, I use swearing in casual conversation (bit rough!). Maybe I should have been more liberal with the smileys! 😀
All Attwood needs to learn is subtlety, otherwise he’s golden. 😀
I’ll decide who wins when I see the teams, a full strength Wales would wipe the floor with England currently although the lack of Welsh locks fit or not banned is worryingly short.
To be fair the couldnt do worse wrecker. Dean richards would be nice. The rumour is it’l be Steve Tandy another bloody inexperience idiot. Maybe Ruddock could be a returning hero?
