    Not for biking

I don’t think I’ve ever had gloves that weren’t for work or cycling, so have no idea about them at all

I don’t want woolen and possibly not leather (unless they look really nice), not too bulky, but not thin enough to be pointless – no idea about material really

    What’s out there?

Kind of depends what you want to use them for tbh.

    Casual? Smart? Work?

There are a lot of gloves out there for many different uses. I alternate between the ones there ^^^ for when I have crappy jobs to do, the cheaper nitrile/fabric ones for working on the van and spending decent money on Hestra when I want me hands to stay warm.

Hestra are not cheap, but they have gloves for about every situation. They are leather though. Sorry if that is a non-requirement.

    Go wild.

Sorry – casual. To be worn when it’s big coat, hat, scarf, walk to the pub type scenario

My last 2 pairs of “not cycling” gloves came from Sainsburys…

What you want is the D’wool glove  They’re the same pattern as the Giro DND and have the same palm, but the back is v nice merino. IRL they’re pretty smart – Useless as winter MTB riding gloves BTW, they’re not insulating enough for that, but perfectly good for the sorts of “not really that cold” winter days we get now.

I have some m&s ‘smart /casual’ gloves. I like them.

Why not wool? I’m not sure if mine are wool or synthetic, maybe a blend, I’m not sure.

Might come in handy for country pubs and delivering a calf on the way home.

Or for a more sophisticated evening maybe these.

There’s all sorts of fleece gloves out there, or thin Pertex with fleece lining. Just check retailers like Cotswold Outdoor, or look for someone nearby where you can actually look at them and try them on – that’s really the best option.

I’ve got some fleece shooters mitts, which are great if you need to take photos, you fold the end bit back then you’ve got full use of your fingers. I’ve got some wool/acrylic ones as well, one pair I used to wear at work, completely wore through them and bought several more pairs, they were ideal for working outdoors through the winter, I needed to use a tablet, so-called touchscreen capable gloves are useless, those mitts were ideal.

Decathlon have a few to choose from and best of all to try them on

But for any kind of work Showa but not the cheapy stuff get the kv3 as the last for ages and bullet proof as the kv stands for Kevlar

Even have stainless steel through them according to the packing

£20 a pair but if you shop around or near Grangemouth £13

I’ve got some really nice nubuck leather gloves with a fleece lining. There are some a bit like them on that M&S link above. Really comfy, very warm. Although possibly a bit chunkier than what you’re looking for? Not huge though.

So I’ve re-thunk the not leather idea after looking around a bit and something similar to these are maybe what I’m looking for. Not sure if the colour on these though – a bit ‘too’ tan

    Ah, bondage gloves then!

There’s all sorts of fleece gloves out there

Reminds me, I’ve still got the fleece gloves I bought for Polaris back in the 90s. Wore them loads riding in the winter. They were just general camping/outdoor gloves. Seem to last forever.

Those &Sons gloves are basically the sort of gloves worn by ranch hands in the States, usually very thick but soft leather, and they’re nearly always a pale tan, those look a bit darker. If you get some Mink Oil or Renapur Wax, and give them a good coating, it’ll darken them down a bit, and also make them more weather resistant.

They’re popular with bikers in the States as well, which is why those are attached to a chain, not something I’d choose to do, but then, I’m not a biker!

I’ve fancied a pair of gloves like that for ages, I did have some years ago, but they were quite thin and I wore them out, so I might check those out.

Here you go, they do black ones as well, so probably what you’re looking for.

@TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR – Hestra gloves are great and come in a wide range of sizes

The Wakayama is good winter all-rounder but plenty of options on their site.
