I bought some Aeffect cranks and the quoted chain line is 47.5mm on the product page

    https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/race-face-aeffect-32t-direct-mount-crank-175mm-957129

The spindle is marked as RXC137, I have a 68/73mm BSA threaded BB and need a normal non-boost 48mm chain line. I’ve been using this document as a guide CINCH CRANKS – Q FACTORS, BBs AND CHAINLINES – Race Face

Seems I might not be able to achieve a 48mm chain line after all? Can anyone advise?

There’s also this guide from Silverfish

    http://www.silverfish-uk.com/netalogue/pdfs/Crank_Q-factors_chainlines.pdf

This seems to suggest all Aeffect cranks are boost only when used with the direct mount ring

Boost is closer to 52mm is it not? First link states your combo gives 51mm.

Spacers moved place on the axle and/or different offset rings (like Superstar) can be used to adjust

Yeah, normal chain line is between 48 and 50mm and boost is 51-53mm.

As above – if you move the 2.5mm spacers on the BB to the NDS, you’d get your ideal chainline.

    Alternatively, send it back.

I don’t think that’s right. Rockthreegozy is talking about moving spacers on the axle not bb. The axle spacers are 1mm

There are older instructions somewhere that show you the spacer setup on the crank axle (not the bb shell as above) Perhaps newer versions got rid of this

    See here https://www.raceface.com/products/details/ride-cranks

Different model but you’ll be able to work out if you can adjust with the spacers if they are included with your setup

Thanks, I have an old Ride crank too and remember those spacers now.

The Aeffect crank was supplied with 2 1mm black axle spacers but Table 6 in here https://www.raceface.com/media/Crank_Q-factors_and_chainlines.pdf says 4 for RXC137. There doesn’t seem to be a valid combination for only 2 black spacers for RXC137….?

I don’t think you need any axle spacers for the Aeffect crank on a 73mm BB with the 137mm spacing. You certainly don’t for the 136 or 134mm on the same shell. That’s why I said you may need to swap the BB spacer instead.

I’ve just asked on the Silverfish support chat on the website. They’ve said it needs 4 x 1mm axle spacers on the RXC137 spindle for a 68/73mm BSA threaded BB.

So, I need 2 more spacers then play about to get the chain ring in the right place. I think I’d end up with 3 spacers on the non-drive side.

    Aeffect doesn’t have axle spacers

Those cranks are normally sold as arms only ,and you buy either a boost or non boost ring depending on what you require.

The chainline is quoted at 47.5mm. I strongly suspect that will be ok for a setup that needs a 48mm chainline.

Erm it does, at least now. Maybe there were older models that didn’t? It comes in 5 spindle lengths so spacers make sense to allow adjustment of chainlines.

The retailer quotes that not Raceface. RF say 51mm in the document in the link ^. But seems that’s a maximum rather than a set value as it also says

The interchangeable BLACK and WHITE 1mm spacers can be moved from one side of the BB to the other to adjust the chainline and crank clearance

    ………..

For Cinch 24mm cranks, the Red 1mm spacer and 1 Black 1mm spacer must remain on the drive side crank stopper ring at all times

That means I can move 3 x 1mm spacers to the non-drive side and take the chain line from 51mm to 48mm (and hope the cranks still clear!).
