Proof that rotors get hot in the alps (nasty photo content warning!)

8 days after I brushed against my rear rotor at the megavalanche – and the leg (and me!) has stopped weeping. Lesson learned I hope.

stupid stupid stupid. Still I've been riding bikes a lot for the past however many years and only done this once – let's hope it stays that way!

I can't see a picture, but i've had a few disc rotor shaped burns in the Alps (pretty much every year). None that bad, but if you have 205mm rotors, it only takes a momentary lapse of concentration.

I was thinking of rigging up some tubing, a valve and a water bottle to cool my rotors. The easier option is to swerve the Alps.

I cooked the new 09 Saint rear brakes in the Alps three times. I am just super hard on brakes.

Had a lovely C2 rotor burn on my clar for a few years, faded now 🙁

Had to change pads part-way down a steep, techy trail yesterday. The whole fork lower/dropout area was too hot to touch, never mind the caliper!

I got all tangled up on one of the steep switchbacks lower down in the quali, and slowly collapsed onto the bike. I now have a rotor-shaped melty hole in my Endura shorts, and a burn on my bum 😳

LOL! i might have thought that until we went to verbier a few weeks ago. brakes on, a lot, and if you let 'em off on 90% of the trails, even for a few seconds, the bike took off at such a pace you were back on the brakes and straight back up to temperature and finger strain levels so it made no odds at all! 8)

My war wound is from Verbier, your right it's steep but you can control your breaking otherwise your going through a lot of pads.

Whilst I see that 'dragging' is frowned upon, surely no-braking-then-slamming-on-for-the-corners just causes the huge braking bumps that are a big problem on most trails?

Only if you lock up your wheels.
