this is a 1993 gs500 which cost me £170. i rode it from john o groats to lands end on friday 21st of june (longest day) to lands end stopping only for petrol, food and toilet breaks not using motorways in 24hours to the minute.
all in the aid of charity. i raised about £700 quid and the group i was riding with have raised a total of over £18k for cancer research uk. the rules were £300 bike maximum! some of the other bikes were properly hideous and unbelieveably the first bike to arrive at LE was a honda cbr125!!
I rode a Honda CD 175 from London to JOG, that took me about 3 days stopping in Newcastle. Was going to carry on to Cape Wrath but after three lonely boring nights in my tent in the rain (no iPods in those days) I was so depressed I went home.
In my opinion, there’s nothing in this world
Beats a ’52 Vincent and a Redheaded girl.
Now Nortons and Indians and Greavses won’t do.
Oh, they don’t have a Soul like a Vincent ’52. 😀
Nice to see pics of motorcycles with visible engines. Not saying I don’t like fully faired bikes but I have a real soft spot for those bikes that gave me a hard spot when I was a spotty youth, here’s my contribution.
Its the only bike picture I’ve got, but it was waaaaaay cool at the time. My parents told me a while back that they got called into school by my teacher because she thought I was having delusions – telling all the kids I had been riding my motorbike at the weekend. They took great pleasure in putting her right!
Ah yes. The Fantastic Britten. Remember seeing them racing at Snetterton in the early to mid nineties and then seeing one in the museum in Wellington. RIP John Britten.
