Following my accident yesterday, I may end up with physio treatment or suchlike.

Not really a fan of the ambulance-chasers, but does anyone have any experiences of making claims? I'm honestly not just out to make a few quid – I'd be genuinely claiming for treatment. Do I need to prove first that I need it, or are these things speculative on the basis of the severity of the injury? i.e. what treatment I may need in the future?

    Ta.

You would have to be examined and any injuries now or perceived ones for your lifetime (such as persistent neck/shoulder pain after whiplash) assessed.

I think it's just a case of getting checked out by your Doc and seeing what you need. If you know your gonna have to pay out for treatment or lose money based on not being able to work etc it might be worthwhile.

My wife's a Personal Injury Solicitor so I'll ask her this weekend.

I think it's just a case of getting checked out by your Doc and seeing what you need.

Doctors tend to hate that – you've been checked over by A&E so don't walk into a doctors and ask what problems you might have. You have to wait until you're actually injured/ill/dead before seeing the doctor who'll then refer you accordingly.
The other way of doing it is to go and see a physio anyway privately. The physio will tell you that you need 8 sessions of treatment for it to be worthwhile* with a possible further 8 to follow and charge you as appropriate – you can then try claiming it back off the insurance.

In the meantime, join British Cycling or CTC – you help to support cycling and you get good insurance cover, accident helpline etc. Cycling Weekly has adverts at the back for various cycling-specific ambulance chasers solicitors.

*girlfriend is a physio, she's told me all about "standard practice"!

Surely, in order for a claim to be started, you would need something in writing from a doctor?

When my wife was involved in an accident, she saw her doctor in the first instance and that was logged on the claim form. During the course of the claim she had to see an independent doctor who specialised in the injury she had been diagnosed with (whiplash). That doctor then offered their diagnosis and scored the severity of her injury along with an estimated timescale for discomfort. This was then used as the basis for the settlement figure.

    Just ring the insurer.

They can arrange treatment if you need it privately and will offer an initial assessment via an independent treatment provider.

If its any member of RBS, I'll even tell you where to ring….

    as above really,
1st stop I am afraid is the solicitors. They will write to your gp for whatever info they may need– copy of a+e records etc. And will tell you if you can just go and get some physio to claim back later or may want an opinion from a medicolegal doc 1st.
If you hadn't seen a doc at all they may adv you to see your gp but shouldn't be necessary if you've received attention at the time.
It all should be done outside the nhs.

Take my advice,go for compensation if your eligible.
If you have sustained whiplash, forget using a keyboard for any period of time,I also found carrying a bag /rucksack/courier sack aggravates it too.If you move it too much it starts to tingle, that becomes a burning that then starts to spasm.its real fun 😉
I hit some roadworks, and didn't sue even though I suffered bad whiplash
I wasn't wearing a helmet and thought they'd hold it against me 🙄
Its been 2 yrs and it still can hurt like hell.2 months after it happened is when the symptoms really came on strongly

I wish i had sued the buggers, get some payback for the pain.
The roadworks was really poorly lit near a junction,it was about 11pm ,dark and i was concentrating too much on the junction, damn bollards just caught me and over i went still clipped in 😆 😆
It was the left side of my neck that seemed to be affected worst.

Im left handed and love gaming,i think it was the gaming through the pain barrier that that slowed the healing
