Fags are much worse for you than McDonalds, I’d say.

One burger now and then is nothing to get upset about. As for it being an ‘awful’ place, well that’s a matter of opinion clearly not shared by the vegan girl.

You might not want to go there, but the girl does, and given that a treat now and then is not going to do ANY harm, then where’s the harm?

It is ridiculous to think that Mc Donalds is not healthy and not a place you would want your kid to go to ? Is there nothing/nowhere you would object to them consuming or going to eat?

It’s fair enough to not want them to go to McDonalds, but best not to get too precious about it eh?

Eldest on leaving in loud voice so he was heard

” daddy why are all these people so fat?”
me walking faster trying to ignore him

” is it because they eat too much and dont exercise”
” pretty much son, pretty much”

    True story

Teaching your kids to be snobby, judgemental and rude is probably more harmful than the occasional burger. 😐

Yeah I’d have given my kid a short lesson in not talking about people when they can hear you.

Is there nothing/nowhere you would object to them consuming or going to eat?

Our kids have been to numerous birthday parties where they ate not much more than crisps, sweets, chips and sausages. I didn’t object to it, of course, but I did make sure they had plenty of healthy food the rest of the day.

I was vegetarian for a few years and have been pesciverous for over twenty I felt immediate health benefits and became very ill when I reverted to meat eating for a month. Pure anecdote I know but for me the health benefits are real .

Yeah funny that 🙂 I was veggie for a year, just ‘cos I couldn’t be bothered to get to a decent butcher#, then I blew out on a lamb roast and felt rubbish for days.

Had you considered that your gut might contain bacteria that breaks down different types of foodstuff?
If you don’t eat that type of foodstuff for a very long time what do you think happens to the bacteria in your gut?
If you eat a type of product, which we could call meat, that your gut has not received before does it:
    a) digest rapidly and easily
    b) digest slowly with side effects such as stomach ache
    c) become a baby robin

#there might’ve been other, rave related, reasons to my lack of meat cravings

The point is not the healthiness or otherwise of the burger, it is that the parents have made the moral choice not to eat the flesh of an animals. Parents make choices for their kids all the time because kids are not equipped to make complex choices (nor are many adults, apparently) – that’s why we don’t let them vote, get married, drive a car etc.

When you say fags do you mean in an Eton way, American way or English colloquial?

The answers would be possibly, probably not and probably.

I’m not the sharpest tool in the box, but even I don’t regard what to have for lunch as a ‘complex choice’. I don’t think many kids would either 😉

DrJ – with your job I guess you’ll be well aware of the concept of Gillick competence – if a ten year old child says she wants to eat a beefburger, but wants to keep it a secret from her vegan parents because they will disapprove… where would that fall on the Fraser guidelines?

Thanks for the advice there…I massively appreciate it 😉

In light if your comment and in the name of education and science i will make sure he knows they are all just big boned, it is not their fault and they cannot help it all.

Problem is grum that the 4 year olds assessment was correct even though it was insensitive.

No, we’re having a discussion, which you’re not bringing anything remotely valuable to.

Well having read the previous 12 pages and concluding that, IMO, it was an argument not a discussion, with endless repeating of the same points, I was make a statement.

    IBS flare up.

I’ve been a sufferer for 10+ years. I’m perfectly fine with meat. Whole grains, cereals and citrus fruits are my Kryptonite. But anyone with any knowledge of the condition will undoubtedly confirm that it could be anything that causes flare ups. You could be fine with certain foods for years, then tomorrow it causes a reaction. Medical professionals don’t really understand why.

It’s not the comment, it was making it in earshot. Can’t blame the kid, but they need to know not to talk about people in their earshot.

It’s more based on the attitude of the father. JY is a nice guy but has a real nasty streak when it comes to overweight people for some reason.

I think you are confused between sarcasm and a straw man tbh

????? I accept i can be , abrasive as molly kindly puts it *, but i have no idea what leads you to that conclusion.

I have no idea what I have done to give that impression and i sincerely apologise. I have no issue at all with overweight folk. Why would i ?
    As for molly’s point
I tried to ignore him but what did you want me to do?
hey you cannot say that in front of them whilst we were in front of them? The situation was beyond rescuing so either i could be honest with my son or embarrassed and make him feel bad. I chose the former
If he was rude to someone who was overweight i would be unimpressed by this behaviour and he would be in trouble

TBH I just thought it was one of those funny out of the mouths of babes comments and did not expect it to be debated nor cause offence
    Again I am sorry

    * even that sounds abrasive[ shitty] but it is a kind way of saying it and I mean it

kid – are they fat because they eat too much and not do enough exercise?

    Parent – yes

that’s not rude and unpleasant its the truth, its why I’m a bit porky lol

    I’m not.

hey you cannot say that in front of them whilst we were in front of them?

Yes. If the person hears you admonish the kid they are likely to understand it as one of those awkward things kids say. If you just answer and make nothing of it then you as an adult are complicit in it.

The fat person knows they eat too much and don’t exercise, probably, but they don’t need to be made to feel worse about it by strangers. I would have explained to the kid LATER that they were probably correct.

But I have sympathy with JY as you don’t always think of what to say at the time and he wasn’t deliberately being rude I’m sure.

did not expect it to be debated nor cause offence

Mol is it ridiculous to object to exploitative marketing, poor treatment of employees , poor quality food , mal treatment of animals and poor hygiene.

I am one of those sanctimonious gits who believes the only effective vote I get is where I spend my cash . I won’t spend mine in McD’s and don’t want to have rows with a toddler who has been intoduced to high gat high sugar and high salt junk. Even MCC’s executives won’t let their children eat there.

I once ate at McDs, still have a resting heartrate of 49 bpm.

Do you actually know any of these things or are you just reiterating internet stuffs?

As for toddler and junk food, mine have been introduced to it. They have also have had nutrition and self control explained to them, since you can’t shield them from junk food forever.

    crankboy

Yes I know have friends and clients who work there.

Actually you can easily shield toddlers from bad food for ever that is the beauty of toddlers they can’t out run you and by law they need constant adult supervision. It is when they cease to be toddlers that the debate begins.

JY – No lying has actually knowingly been involved (yet) in the eating of this cheeseburger*. We’re sort of taking our lead from the US armed forces policy on gayers: Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell

He said gayers, this thread must have life left in it yet.
