Within a minute or two of posting OHs car for sale on Autotrader an enquiry came in which started this thread. Don’t think I need to ask if it’s a scam or not LOL! Read from the bottom up.

    Okay

OK well I’m off to bed now so we can continue tomorrow.

I’ve had a bad experience with reports in the past, so I can only trust the ones I’ve personally used.

Sounds like the same info the autotrader report gives.

there report shows Write-off scrap, Market value, Vehicle identity check, Damage records, Mileage history,Theft records, outstanding finance, Road tax, MOT

I’ve used the site many times before without any issues. They offer accurate and detailed information about the vehicle.Once you receive the report, you’ll see that it’s not a scam site. The negative reviews are just propaganda from rival companies trying to undermine the site’s reputation.

Got to be honest, I had never heard of scanyouride and google suggests that it is a scam site. What info are you looking for maybe I can help you.

I would love to pull the report on your behalf but I won’t be able to do that because they provide specific information to the owners,
Best I can do from my side is reimburse you

Sorry to be awkward but you can purchase your own report from Autotrader.

which payment method do you prefer? And can you provide me with its Fresh report from scanyouride .com so I can see its condition in the meantime.

Yes, I can be available then. It’s best to have a look and see for yourself. I’ve been totally honest about the faults in the description as we don’t want to hide anything and then have come back later.

To be honest, I am really interested in this car and willing to pay you your asking price if it’s worth it. Are you available around 2 Pm on Sunday?

All of the problems are clearly listed in the description.

Alright, It looks perfect in the pictures, but could you let me know if there are any or mechanical problems that are prompting you to sell it?

My partner is the owner and registered keeper. No liens or loans.

Okay,  Are you the original owner, and is the title under your name with no liens or loans against it?

Yeah, it has only just been advertised.

    Is this still available?

yup, had this recently, what appears to be a genuine enquiry, asks questions, go back and forth, then they ask to do a ‘VIN’ check via some linked website, which i believe ultimately clone your card details and run off into the sunset with them.

Various excuses of not being able to do the check themselves…. which then starts raising red flags… ‘my cards expired’, ‘my mechanic wants to see the report before he goes out of town’…. get to fu…..

Its annoying, as i say, they seem genuine at first.

Although on a different note, i did sell my car in the end via motorway. The garage who bought it took ages to get in contact, finally came down, the guy looking at it clearly hadnt a clue about the car, then finally came to paying me, his ‘boss’ transferred a small amount to make sure the account was correct…. then when sending the rest it had been flagged by the bank so needed to call them in the morning to clear it, but it was ok, as i knew him, and his company, so he could take the car and send the money in the morning. needless to say, i said no freaking chance. Thankfully he had another account he could send money from…. now i am not saying they wouldnt pay, but i reckon i wouldve been chasing it for weeks.

    anywho……

Quite common now. There is no need for you to ever buy a check, that is something the buyer can do without your involvement.

Didn’t this exact conversation crop up on here a couple of days ago?

When he said, I’ll reimburse you, I’d have countered with,

‘hey, if you send me your card details, I’ll use those and you won’t need to! Long number, name on card, expiry date and security code will be enough’

I had someone try this. I bought a report from a reputable site but they insisted I go to their dodgy page and put in my details. Jog on.

Would this be an actual person paid to engage? Must be in a cheap labour country to make it worth the effort it must take to conclude one successful hit. Or AI bot?

I can’t believe he didn’t offer to swap it for a speed boat.

    Standards are slipping

    Scam, block.

And maybe do something more about it. Blocking it achieves nothing really, posting about it has a pretty limited effect. The NCSC can take down the domains the scammers use but the first step for them to be able to do that is for someone to actually tell them about it and not rely on them happening to read about on a cycling forum

Cyber crime is a multibillion dollar industry – often a state level one. North Korea’s nuclear weapons program is funded by online scams

    Nigeria, China, N Korea, Russia…

And with AI help, even the spelling will be pretty spot on, only terms like ‘lien’, which is a common US legal term would likely raise a red flag in the U.K.

See also reddit posts on say an r/uk sub..

Rife with AI bots… The American-isms and complete lack of any sort of UK centric dialect give them away immediately.

They are getting more sophisticated all the time though….
