hi all iv only just started riding and i baught myself a £300 specialized hardrock sport but im having the problem of negotiating stones/rocks on tracks without going head over tail or sliding to a halt.
any1 got any advice?
oh yeah and im only 13
keep doing it till you stop falling.
Speed (within reason) is your friend, trouble with most trail obstacles is that if you approach them too slowly you'll either bottle it or not have enough momentum to clear the obstacle. It's catch 22, you won't go fast until you're confident, you're not confident until you've cleared the obstacle, you won't clear the obstacle if you go too slowly etc.
are we talking about steps going up, when you say stones/rocks?
Weight back, as it sounds like your too far forward and a decent amount of speed.
I spent the 1st 6 months riding off-road (I came to mtb-ing late) going over the bars on my bike, got so good a I could roll out and stand up at times... it's part of the learning experience.... and still happens regularly enough now (the falling off bit - not the para roll).
Though my problems were exaggerate by having a frame too large for me - you live and learn.
lower your saddle and get your weight back, watch lots of mtb dvds and study the little details as to how they ride, you'll get there!
