My 11yo and Youtube

My 11yo uses YouTube for guitar backing tracks, unfortunately they also use it for watching NickEh & CausalGamer play Fortnite.

Is it possible to enable the 11yo to watch as much guitar backing tracks as they like, but restrict the Fortnite s**te?

“restrict youtube to specific channels” on Google comes up with quite a few answers

The answer is probably not as they will find a way round it.

My son used to get round anything I did.  He’s 24 and works in IT these days ! the little bugger

That only applies to a kids account, a kids account will not allow him to view alot of guitar backing track videos.

YouTube account restrictions / parental controls are utterly crap.  You can either use what YouTube see as appropriate or disable every video there is and enable them back one by one and even the only in the YT kids app/profiles in the main app (which aren’t password protected ??‍♂️). It’s rubbish.

Most kids restrictions work for under 3’s

He’ll just make his own account if you restric it.

And just because it’s labelled as suitable for YT kids doesn’t mean it’s suitable. After all, it’s the creator who decides. Not anyone independent. Beware!

I couldn’t implement an adequate way of blocking Fortnite. Too weak.

That deserved more recognition.
