Have been using synthetic motor oil in all of my fork lowers for a while now and seems to work really well with no ill effects.

Any reason I can’t use it in RP23 air sleeve instead of Fox Float Fluid? Anyone tried it?

    Thanks

A RP23 only needs about half a pillow pack of Float Fluid…why risk it? 😕

Can you get it thick enough, iirc its 50wt gearbox oil

No, use float fluid, which is close to 80wt gear oil. Are your fork open bath cartridge too?

I used the same oil as my mates VW camper in my Rockshox ,it worked fine

It works very nicely in my forks and I have some in the garage…

    All are Rockshox dual air

Sounds like I’d be better off with float fluid or gear oil then – thanks.

I read that they used to use grease in the shocks – does float fluid perform better? Just wondered as Rockshox have moved to using grease in their fork air chamber.

Fluid is what fox rears are designed for, you didn’t mention what make of forks they were if they’d been fox O/B ones the lubrication oil does has both lube and damping duties so might have caused issue with damping which is why I asked.

Rockshox use grease in shock air chambers but then they’ve desinged for that, saying that the air cans do need fairly regular servicing to keep them tip top with the RS air shocks.

Grease in the fork air chambers (solo air) mostly in rockshox stuff now stops the negative transfer port getting gummed up and not transfering which is likely with a oil/grease mix.
Dual air are separte chambers so a drop or 2 of oil in addition to the grease makes them feel quite nice 😉
