Hi all me and a buddy are out there between these times and are thinking of getting a guide for one of the days anyone else interested in sharing the cost ?

Its only my 2nd time out there and last year saw me stay to the main marked bits. This year I want to see some of the less well travelled trails and thinking a guide will be the best way to spend a day – Been recommended someone. any interest?

Definitely interested. I’m staying in Aix-les-Bains between the 14th and 25th July and planning on heading into the hills at least a four or five days of that. Having a guide early on in that period would be great.

What kinda moneys are we talking? Also what kind of riding? I’m an AM rider. Not massively fit but reasonable especially if I’ve had my morning coffee. Prefer singletrack and DH but can knuckle down on the climbs and will get there eventually.

Hey twiggy , I am waiting on some costs from a guide that was recommended to me as soon as i know I will let you also. 16th would be a good day for us also. Am riders this end I’d say we are going to the alps for the decents right , don’t wanna be pedalling up too much unless it was for something breathtaking. Let me get prices and I will pm you and we can sort something out

Your view on the reasons for riding sound pretty much identical to my own – will climb but only if worth it.

16th would be the earliest day I could do it. Driving down there from Manchester on the 14th so reckon I’ll be pretty sh@gged out on the 15th and will spend the day recuperating (getting drunk). 16th or 17th best for me.

Sounds like it could be a go-er 🙂

Hi chaps – bellow is response – if we can get 5 of us its just 44 euro each – I may perhaps be able to pick up a few extra at the hotel i am staying at to bring cost down further. 16th works for me to get a nice epic day in.

Let me know if your 100% and i will get it booked – May need a small deposit from you if you want to go – really dont want to lash out all the money and get stuck if you have a heavy night

    Hi Dean,
Thank you for your email and interest.
We do have a guide available on the 16th/17th and we would be really pleased to show you “the good stuff”!
Keep in mind though that what is less known/ridden involve a little bit of pedalling… nothing too bad though and it worth it!

Day for a private guide is 220€ for the day, price to be divided by the number of riders (8 max). It would be just you and your friends, we don’t mix groups.
Let me know what you think,
    Best wishes,

    Jo

We’re over in Chatel that week, Black SX Trail with Purple forks. Don’t forget to say hi.

If there’s anywhere in particular you want to get to will probably be able to advise on the quickest and easiest routes.

I’m still interested. Email me on reggiegasket [at] yahoo.co.uk with any updates. See if Jo will charge a bit less for a smaller group…

    ok reggie will do

Oliver Blue 5 spot with white forks will be sure to if i bump into you.

This is just the thing my first time was last year and i stuck to les gets & morzine – 1 because that was enough and 2 because it was early season and the other lifts were not open.

Was just going to do the PDS route on the monday and follow my nose but think i may get more value from a guide – allthough unless there are a few of us it could prove an expensive decision.

Any recomendations other than getting over to Chatel ??

Jo is really good – will be worth it.

If I could find some accommodation, I might be tempted to come out and join you for a week. (last minute discovery of funds)

Ridden Morzine a few years so know a few routes, too.

I know you got bitten before with A/E Rachel but whats better – being in the alps on your bike or at home thinking about it.

The Christiana is a brilliant spot and gets very positive reviews generaly – and as i said could not fault the staff or the food last year. one even went as far as to let me bankt ransfer some cash into his account and give me cash when i lost my card.- 488 quid + bike carrage – what better way to spend those discovered funds !

Besides tell em you had a crap time last time and ask for a discount !

I have used Jo for the last two summers and he is a good lad so you will be set up with just what you want. Comment on the cost, yes it seems steep but get it shared out and it becomes palatable and you do have that knowledge for the day when you don’t need to worry about the route. We did an”epic” with Jo rather than back uP and down the same hill, ended up by the world cup course down to Champery but no whips were performed!!!!
If you qre mixing the group up make sure you agree what sort of riding you are after sooner rather than later to avoid any dissapointment ( payment problems) at the end of the day.
And from recollection, that’s a fixed price. No reductions for smaller groups.
I on the other hand, will be asking Jo for a “buy two get one free” deal next year!

I found one place in morzine offering £200ppw half board but in the end my buddie and I have gone for a self catering apartment for €250. Depends how much support you need.

rockhopper – thats the only issue – its just me and a mate going together hence me trying to get people in to share the cost – 110 euro each is a little steep even for a STW er !!

But id love to do it and Jo has been recomended – rather do an epic like you say – I can swallow 55 each for the day no bother but thanks for the advice

allthegear – just book it then .. you will have a great time seems like there are a few on here going so you wont be short of riding/drinking buddys !

I’m up for the 16th and will pay up to £55.00 as well. Drop me a line at crowtyboy[at}gmaildotcom if you’re still up for organising it. Any clue what the deal is with lift passes? I’m staying just outside the alps and wondering if day passes/week pass is the way to go. Aim to ride four or five days over a ten day stay.

I’m on a silver Spicy with black forks and green bits. Will be out there on my tod so anyone who’s about feel free to give me a shout. Always up for riding with new people.

@Twiggy – the lift passes in PDS are cheap enough to just buy dailys on the basis you are not going to ride every day during the period. Plus that way you can try different resorts within the PDS or elsewhere (which I’d recommend)

    FWIW I’ll be riding there 22, 23 and 24

    Where are you staying ?

EDIT: Just seen Aix-les-Bains. You can try exploring in La Clusaz (great resort for restaurants), I’ve only been there in the winter but I’m keen to try biking there. Do you know Annecy, super picturesque town on the lake below La Clusaz. A road biking mate of mine is out there at the moment (they did a TdF time trial there a year or two ago). You can also drive to Chamonix easily (a lot of “trails” are walkers only in July/Aug but there is an guide book everyone recommends called The Chamonix Bike Book). If you stay over in Chamonix or somewhere similar it’s a quick drive to Verbier in the summer. You might try and tag on a day or two with Bike Verbier.
