Pretty sure we had access via a Student license that eldest had, but it looks like it has expired as it won’t let me edit a spreadsheet or any of my saved documents, saying it’s an “unlicensed product”.

We only use Word and a a bit of Excel – anyone suggest the best option for us?

I’ve got basic One Drive (which I do not pay for, ie free) and this allows me to edit Excel files using the on-line (browser) version of Excel.

So if you can upload your spreadsheet to One Drive and sign in on on-line, you should be able to edit it without having to pay any license

Or there’s a single or family sub that are quite reasonable annual rates.

As an aside there’s an accountant I follow on LinkedIn who was asking about people building financial models with Google Sheets and I’m aware of people who’ve run consulting businesses off Google’s Docs, Sheets, etc on a small business version.  Pretty sure they support MS formats as well.

All that Google talk aside I still pay for an MS licence as the UI is better and it’s what I’m used to at work.

My experience of google sheets etc and even the Microsoft online stuff. Is they are fine. Until you have to engage with the outside world and then they are a nightmare.

office.com gives you a watered down version of M365 for free.

    FTFY.

It’s utterly useless for any proper editing, think of it as a better version of Wordpad.

That’s all most home users need. If it’s inadequate then switch to LibreOffice.

    Is the actual answer.
