memory failing. 1×10 chain length??

apologies once again for more “daft question time”

For 2/3 x 8/9 i seem to remember setting the chain length by going big to big plus 2 links.

for 1×10 is this just going to be as simple as “front to big” plus 2? or plus none?

or if not that, what?

Yeah – Big to big plus 2 left mine a bit long, I found.

Front to biggest rear through mechs, and run it through the suspension travel if it’s a full suss. Anything else is just bodgery.

I must say on FS bikes I tend to just go through the mech in front ring/small and make sure it’s not slack. I’d rather too long than too short, and only find out when I really bottom the shock out and the mech gets ripped in half!

Sorry to butt in, it’s my first time building up a bike and I’m starting tomorrow.
For a 3×10 I don’t understand the system of deciding chain length.
I run the chain around the biggest rings, hold the chain together by hand then add two links. Is that it?

Yes, or run it through the mech whilst the mech is pulled to almost full reach,

If its a full suss, let down the rear shock first.

You will soon know if it is too short when you put it on the bike, In big, big combo it should go around the jockey wheels and not straight thru them like it is about to rip the thing off

Don’t use that bollocks, just slap it into lowest gears and shorten till the mech stops rubbing, just enough tension on the mech to pull it. I did that biggest cogs + links rubbish and the chain ended up to short.

Sorry, not sure what ’till mech stops rubbing’ means.
