Their new 12000 model has different cables, possibly with silicone insulation which seems better and more flexible. I don’t know what the 6500 and 8000 cables are like nowadays, whether they’ve changed them up or not.
I’m still running a 6500 but I’m just super gentle with the cables now, mine is on its fifth winter of use after a few issues. I warrantied the battery cable after 9 months, then had to warranty the light as the connected cable failed after about 21 months. I’ve since had the battery cable fail after a further 18 months so I bought a new one which was fairly inexpensive, and I cut out the failed section of cable and re-soldered the connector back on as a spare.
The inner cable insulation fractures and causes it to short circuit triggering the battery protection to kick in – you reset by removing the offending cable and plugging the charger into the battery.
I run an exposure helmet light as well so I’m not too worried about being plunged into darkness if the cables failed
