The designers have evidently bagged huge support with Kickstarter

and on a more serious note, if that was your only light then you’d be giving motorists a get out of jail card by having it too high and not attached to the bike.

Having said which, I have front and back lights on my helmet, in addition to others

    L👀ks great for commuting 👍

Is the front light a ‘see with’ or a ‘be seen’ light?

And drivers aren’t looking for indicators on bikes, so not sure how much use they are.

And I’d still have lights on my bike.

Not sure many drivers will interpret a flashing light on the back of a bike helmet as a turn signal. But overall if buying one of these makes someone feel more like continuing to commute as the evenings get darker then that’s another car off the road.

Just one more depressing cog in the self-perpetuating machine of broken attitudes towards transport and liveable spaces; inevitably I loathe it.

I really don’t get what the obsession is with trying to put indicators on bicycles.

Also, I’ve seen literally zero real cyclists ever use the fist pump signal.

I think the fist pump thing is to activate the indicators if you’re wearing an Apple watch

No, I get that – my point is that it’s an awful way of signalling on a bicycle.

(not taking the piss, genuinely interested as it is a position I normally hold, but don’t see the connection here)

I wonder if they could have chosen someone who looks less comfortable on a bike to appear in their video?

All implementations of indicators for bikes are terrible, but this one seems especially so. I mean, they’re well above where you’d expect a driver to be looking, and they move with your head!

I see your point and I don’t disagree. And whatever I think of lights that high up, incentives to not have lights on the bike or the value of indicators, from an ID and presentation POV it’s easy to see how this got backed to the level it was. Easy-to-sell idea, well styled and pitched, realistic pricing and something anyone with a bike and a head can use. Appeals to the gadget lover early adopters on these funding sites also.

    All of the above.

I won’t be buying one but; more lights on more heads all riding bikes – so good.

Indicators are a daft idea and need to be placed further away from the centreline of the bike so they don’t simply confuse rather than inform.

Aside from the built in lights, it’s not the point but it does look pretty aero, like Abus’s Game changer helmet…..

    It’s just depressing.
Firstly for the reasons bez outlines, secondly that so many people think it’s a good idea.

Ahhhh, the annual* attempt at indicators for bikes.

    Always useless.

Couldn’t agree more. I think I hate everything about that.

No I’ve never seen that. Is it a Mercan thing? Anyway the helmet. It’s OK but it doesn’t make me want to rush out and buy it.

Indeed. All you need to do now is to get Tom Scott to publicise it.

On rather a tangent, I’d like to thank this thread for adding “comfort stop” to my catalogue of euphemisms.

    Superb.
I suggested to a motorbike rider who overtook head-on at mrs_oab and I this weekend he needed a comfort stop….
