Kilmarnock residents who support dignity in dying…..

May I ask for your help on this:
Your MP, Lilian Jones, is holding an event to discuss Kim Leadbeater MP’s assisted dying bill on Friday 22nd November (1 week before 2nd Reading).
Anti choice campaigners have already alerted their membership so please contact Lilian to attend her event, to make sure she hears from the majority of her constituents who support a change in the law. You can email her at lillian.jones.mp@parliament.uk
Apologies for posting it again – I decided this did not get any attention on the main thread so decided to post it here. I do try not to bore your arses off with this stuff but its important ( to me anyway)
The anti side are very well resourced and mobilised and are attempting to flood this meeting with their supporters so its important that those of us in favour make our voices heard. If yo want any help with knowing the type of things to say please contact me. Personal stories are the best.
Please note this is only for constituents. You have to live in the constituency to attend
Apologies again for banging on about his
polyFree MemberTJ – interesting that they are focussing on the “English” bill despite being in Scotland. Will the MSPs be there too? Have you compared the content of the two bills?
tjagainFull MemberLobby your MP over the Westminster bill, lobby your MSP over the holyrood bill. the two are very separate – part of our daft system but we have to work with what we have
This is is an MP looking to gauge reaction from their constituents over the westminster bill. Its a single MP doing a constituency level consultation
Have you compared the content of the two bills?
Only in outline. Both are only for terminally ill adults of sound mind. the westminster bill retains the 6 month limit that was dropped in Scotland as it was seen as unworkable. The westminster bill seems to have a more formal role for the courts but I’m not 100% sure.
The Holyrood bill is much further advanced and has undergone more scrutiny and tweaking. The westminster bill is in outline stages only at the moment I think

I have made my views known to all of my MSPs (List and local) – I think you would approve. You would be less enthused about the responses – I suspect they might have been canned replies, but essentially all colours of party said variations of “its a really important issue, I want to take stock of the issues before drawing conclusions, but my gut feel is to oppose it”. One implied “its not a party issue so don’t pressure me” (perhaps the first time they’ve ever had to think for themselves!) and at least two said they hadn’t had sight of the bill yet (It was a good fews weeks after it was published before I wrote to them so they got suitable replies to that!).
I’ve not contacted my MP as I assumed they had little interest as it was an “English” issue. I thought English Votes for English Laws was still a thing – but I’ve just googled and it seems I’ve missed that being withdrawn. Wouldn’t it be rather bizarre if Scottish MPs tipped the vote in England one way whilst MSPs vote the other – even if there were good reasons on the technicalities of the bills.

I’ve had decent responses from MPs and MSPs. We think there is a majority in Holyrood for it. there certainly is a majority in the country both Scotland and UK in the people. the problem is the antis are very well funded and organised and make a disproportionate noise hence my berating folk to lobby their representatives. Personal stories do make a difference
1squirrelkingFree MemberThis is a timely reminder that I have a less than anonymous Labour MP that would benefit from some work.
DickyboyFull MemberJust bumping this up to remind people to lobby their MPs & MSPs as they see fit, reading the BBC news website I have a sinking feeling this won’t get the votes in favour of a change in the law at Westminster 🙁 Really can’t see the justification of preventing a terminally ill or degeneratively I’ll person from deciding to end their life as they see fit. Seen enough of miserable protracted deaths.
