    Never argued otherwise.

So what exactly have you been wittering on about? 🙂

As I said earlier, that's nowhere near as good as an iMac's screen, which is an LED monitor. The equivalent would probably be nearer £1000.

it wouldn't be nearer £1k my EizoCG cost that and has inbuilt hardware calibration that bypasses the graphics card, 12bit lookup table (not 8bit), 97% adobe1998 colour gamut and a 5year warranty.
the imac screen is nowhere near as good

Just trying to say that there are good and bad points to both, rather than one type being the most fabulous wonderous amazing wonder-thing that we must all follow (which is how most Mac users come over).

Just a tip – saying 'that wouldn't have happened with a Mac' and smirking every time anyone has an IT problem doens't help, it just really annoys people. So button it next time 🙂

27"? All I can find are 24" ones that cost over £1000!

My point was that an equivalent quality screen will add a big chunk to the cost of any build.

Nothing will match the iMac's design. Nothing.

Hmm, the iMac seems better value all the time!

    OOOOOOHHHHHH!

Yes, the screen is nice but I guess it's up to the individual as some might not even notice that at all. Alternatively, just plug it into normal plasma/LCD TV … LOL! That will learn you.

    🙂

p/s: I like Apple but am not keen on giving up total control if I encounter hardware problem or when I need to upgrade in future. I only need to upgrade perhaps … the CPU, Mobo & RAM that's all. Not the entire thing.

Statements like that are just stupid.

There's tons of hardware out there that is amazingly well engineered, complex, elegant, and amazing in detail beyond anything normal people would ever understand (for Mac, PC, anything) and you work yourself up over the box and the desktop.

    Pah.

I've gone into shops and ooed at Macs, then I play with it for a while and realise it's just a desktop computer.

+1 for Chewkw – I've not spent more than a few hundred on my desktop PC at any one time since I bought my first one in 1998 🙂 Upgrades and upgrades 🙂

    Eh? ❓

    😀 But true!

It's not just the aesthetics, it's stuff like the DVD slot, rather than a pop-out flimsy plastic tray, no nasty buttons/bright lights on the front of it, neat cabling all tucked away round the back, half-decent speakers, etc.

When talking about design, you mean the exterior design. Which is fair enough. They look nice.

If you think that's worth the money then ok 😉 (joke)

One of the rich kids at school had a LED watch when they came out, but you had to go under a table to read the display properly. I guess they've sorted that now?

Got me thinking.. I wonder what the coolest PC set up would be that you could build using the wide variety of parts on offer in the market.. I mean 'alternative' style rather than just in terms of spec.

For example, you can built media centre PCs fairly easily that go under your TV etc. Perhaps something operated from a thin touchscreen monitor that you had in say your kitchen, as like a family organiser.. didn't TMobile do something like this?

    I've got one of these:

Blends in well with the other bits of stereo equipment.

Now if I can get OSX to run on it, sorted.

    @ Elfin –

One of those in conjunction with one of these…

    and one of these…

makes for a very usable living room PC. I don't go out anymore.

I think HP had an all in one PC in a flat panel monitor like an iMac but it was touch screen. So you could just wall mount it and use it like that for whatever you need to do standing up or walking by.. nice.. wasn't sure what it was for but it was nice.

Could have been cool for a media centre tho – with remote control.
