Your pink thing hurt my eyes.

Looks like the Marin Trail in your first pic?

Damnit the black steel SF looks too good. ‘What would HR Giger ride?’

Deffo. Mind you that brings odd thoughts of a Jones chestburster to mind…

Stupid tech question – what hub for the truss fork? Is it 135mm eg. Hope fatsno?

Jones 135 front hub or a paul components whub, with no faffing..any other 135 front or rear hub with micking about with spacers and adaptors.

Stu- yes Marin for the top pic….last time my pink thing hurt your eyes it’s ‘cos I missed your mouth in the dark.

What Tazzy said about hubs. Brant apparently will have a Truss fork compatable hub from his Phat Bike.

Now, I’ve been trying to ignore this whole Jones thing in the hope that it would go away and I wouldn’t need to try/buy one. However, looking on threads like this and Jonesbikes.com hasn’t helped matters – I mean, this….

..is all manner of wrong and right at the same time. I want one, badly…..

How do these ride compared to say, a 26inch full suss trail bike? Are they faster/slower or is it just different? I want one but its going to take a lot of convincing to part with nearly £1800 for a steel frame and fork

Very different. Obviously if speed over rough ground is a priority and you’re a capable rider then sus is good, but it has to get suprisingly fast and rough before the Jones loses out in a big way. If you ‘get’ rigid bikes, this is like the AM/FR version – you can handle a Jones way better than rigid bikes that are sus-corrected or based on ‘normal’ mtb format. What Jeff says about them on the site is pretty spot-on imo. You need to try one.

Sounds like I do. I raced a 26 inch rigid through the winter last year so I’m not a newb to the whole rigid thing. My new 29er bike will also be rigid too.

Maybe a demo on one is needed then. What are those bars like to ride? they look horrendous!

That green shopping trolley is loverly.

If only I could find an excuse to own a Ti and steel space frame.

    I think they’re lovely, but I can’t afford one, yet…

So I’m buying some loop bars instead for my Scandal. 🙁

Jamesp – Is your comment re FR rigid based on how easy it is to lift the jones front end versus something like a swift?

excuse my ignorance but are these only available in a single size?

    Gotama

Yes unless you go custom but he’s not talking orders at the moment.

Edit – but as per tazzy’s comment there were apparently some larger Ti ones made a while ago.

Basically yes, the rider’s in what I think is a much better position for technical riding, but overall stiffness of the bike too. The truss fork + 135mm front wheel rides out of situations where a 470mm long cr-mo fork / std wheel just twangs. Braking down really steep stuff is totally different.
And then it still feels super comfy to ride 100 miles or more on.

    this is killing me.
still can’t decide whether to get a steel SF in the short term or wait and save for a Ti. .. Aargh!
Thanks for all the patient evangelism, Stu and Tazz and everyone
Flange, I’d also suggest you ring Jeff on the number on his web site — I did and his wife answered and handed the phone to Jeff. We chatted for about 30 min and he answered all my questions. It was great.

Really love the quirky space frame but not sure about diamond, chain stays look like my Blue Pig’s
How much for those oversize tyres?

what’s the steel diamond/unicrown combo good for guys? (aside from easing the budget a tad compared to sf). are you saying that the truss upgrade is a no-brainer really? (visually I can’t get my head around the truss yet).

A geared Jones just looks wrong

    they are hardly pretty

I used to have three Jones’. Probably a bit excessive. Now down to one which runs as a 69er. And currently building a 650b wheel for the front for giggles.

I prefer the space frame ti for low weight, low standover and generally playfulness.
The diamond frame was great for stability and a plough through anything feel. I had it a with a Rohloff which worked brilliantly (had specific Rohloff cable routing).

I’ll buy another diamond frame eventually for bikepacking. I preferred the look of the straight unicrown fork though…

To continue the heresy, does anyone not have H/loop bars on their Jones?

tried on the diamond, didn’t like as much, went back to the loops. I’m not a fan of the original ones though as they are too narrow for my monkey boy build. The new wider ones are lush.

I’ve never been able to successfully mount up my ti H-Bars – brakes and shifter (heresy again) issues… Need to sell…

yep….Stu has a pic somewhere with the new loops and the older cut loops together from memory the new loops are about 690+ tip to tip the older ones were 660 ish.

Ah sorry, thought you meant compared to original H-bars. Bodged a loop onto my H’s the other week for along night ride – decided I need a loop for the ‘packer bike now.

As SSS says “I’d sell any bike before the Jones” 4 months ago I had a swap around and fitted my Alfine 11 speed on it but the constant problems I was having with the gears I stopped riding it.
The geared hub went off for a service under warranty and took it for it’s first ride last weekend and I fell straight back in love with it all over again even after 1 ride.

    Jameso, what grips/tape you using?

    jameso
    Full Member

Can you see them in all that mess? )

They’re however Jeff does them, unknown thick cork grips and Cinelli tape. The bars / grips were bought s/h and I’ve done ~1800 miles on them since buying them. I tried my best to do the same on the other bars with Velo cork grips and tape, nice enough but not quite the same. Got some Cinelli tape here and will buy more grips off Jeff for next time.
