She’s doing textiles so will need to look at and maybe a tiny bit of image manipulation but not beyond Google photos

She uses Google docs/meet/sheets etc and office 365

    She needs to print

    Everything else is browser based.

What’s the best bang for my buck?

For those basic needs you can get away with something pretty cheap.

At the primary school I work at we just converted a load of older small format Dell laptops from Windows 10 (they were basically unusable with it) to Chromebooks. They are like new machines – pretty much instant startup, all the apps run decently fast, frankly it’s amazing the difference it’s made!

So if you don;t need something new, then something like this would definitely do…

    Dell Chromebook 11 (3120) 11.6" 16GB

    Plenty of options out there.

Used Pixelbook Go. Very well made, screen and keyboard are fantastic. Way better than most new ones. There is an issue that sometimes the camera just stops working, which makes them an even better buy if you don’t need that. Will get updates until 2029 and runs Android Apps (and Linux if needs be). Google Drive and MS OneDrive can be added to the ChromeOS file explorer which is handy. 8GB fine for her use case though they do make a 16GB version too.

Get one in good condition from eBay.

Funnily enough I keep meaning to list my spare one.

Does it have to be a Chromebook? Microsoft just shut off the licence that allows education to have downloaded versions of word etc. and the online version doesn’t have full functionality nor does it do the format correctly. So anything saved in downloaded word is messed up in online word.
    Known issue, no fix.

Obviously if Google docs for everything then that’s a moot point.

I realize in the op she uses Google stuff AND office 365 which is an odd mix, which everyone seems to do.

The M365 Education A1 licence is web-only, but don’t A3 and A5 education licences still allow web apps and desktop versions as well?
