Is it good timing / idea to buy a KTM motorcycle?

Looking at buying a super focused supermoto eg. 450 SMR though unsure what build quality is like these days.

I’m kinda interested if anyone has ever owned or riding pals with one.

I’ve experienced the shocking orange cs though might wanna grab a bargain if I can pick one up dirt cheap.

Even if an ex demo.

From what I can make out, is that their denial of well documented faults and poor QC is catching up with them.

Or do I say sod them and do a conversion on a Honda CRF

I’ve also seen on a different note a new BMW 450 X that piques my intrigue.

I do like a thumper mind.

From what I understand the ones built in India are more reliable than those built in Austria.

I loved my KTM Duke2 and my son loves his Duke 125.

I’d be tempted by the excellent deals around on them at the moment, take a look at Marsh Powersports. I think the 790 motor is the one to avoid, plenty of info about it and the financial issues that KTM have on YouTube, I don’t think they are going anywhere though. I ride a Husqvarna and won’t be getting rid anytime soon.

Not a fan of KTM but the 450 engine if properly looked after is fine, Yamaha probably have the most reliable 450. Thing is these engines were never really designed for a life on tarmac.

Buy a blown up KTM and fit an engine from a crashed Yamaha?

All the trick bits plus it will actually run 😮

(KTM SX250 in my dim and distant past, something wrong when a 2-stroke is considered the safer bet!)

Looking back with my time-telescope there were plenty of KTM engine specialists rebuilding MX engines. A good one would know how to make it reliable at the expense of the very top end. Buy shares in an engine oil and filter company.
