What's good? Not looking to spend silly money, lets say around £50-£100.

Looking for a decent amount of power, and good music quality, a remote, and a clock with alarm, powered from the mains, but would be nice if it could be battery powered too.

Something like this looks pretty cool

Its to fit an ipod nano.

    I've got one of these;

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/i-want-it-iw900-2-1-ipod-speaker-dock-00777580-pdt.html

use it as a pc speaker too – works fine, goes loud, solidly built.

    I've got one of these:

JBL portable on-stage or something. Got in new, boxed on fleabay for around £40. Good sound for the size, has a remote etc and isn't too fugly.

Amazon linky – RRP is £90ish but should be able to get cheaper

(But then I use it with my iphone / a touch so need for a clock / alarm)

I went through this a year ago and the one that came out tops in all the reveiws was the Klipsch igroove – cost just under £100 from Amazon – I am very pleased with it !

Big enough sound for a bedroom

That really as loud as it goes? Looking for something that could be put in the living room, but still heard in the kitchen, eg: the room next to it.

Didn't happen to find something that came out tops at a slightly lower price did you?

logitech (purehifi anywhere 2) fits the bill apart from alarm clock .

should get one for around £90

Depending on where you want to use it you could go for a docking station that plugs into your stereo/sound system. I have. One of these http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/product/ipods-docks-accessories/cambridge-audio/id10/camb-id10-ipod-dock

Realman – not really, no. It is pretty impressive – ours is in the kitchen, but it sounds pretty good in a bigger room too. cheers.

I bought a Sony model from Amazon – can't think which model but it cost about £80 – reduced from £140 I think and it's very good. Full remote and decent base and clear sound and fits my iPhone perfect.

Another vote for a Klipsch I Groove here although there is no alarm.
Did all the research and listened to a load from £50 – £250
The Klipsch was head and shoulders above everything else in terms of sound quality – you can crank it up pretty loud with no distortion and it has real hifi sound quality.
Bought one for little mudpups bedroom and was going to get a spare for living room – ended up with a Fatman iTube Carbon valve dock with a pair of QAcoustic 2050 floorstanders because i went a bit mad!

I've got that Gear4 and it's ideal for me. I'm not a hifi buff or anything but the sound quality is great for the money and it's a really neat little unit. well worth the cash. Comet were doing it for £38 t'other week
