When I reported the outage, I was asked if I’d tried turning the router on and off again.

This was AFTER I’d shared these photos 🙂

Only a few of us affected (that’s how I was able to work out where to look for a broken fibre) and with the council requiring forms for tree cutting, electricity safety checks, road closures etc, it might take a while before we’re back. We also have pretty much zero phone signal here (oh one day I’ll feel the need to tell the 9 chapter smart meter story!), but I do still have an external aerial and an old 4G router. What I didn’t have – other than my phone – was a SIM.

A quick trip to Argos for a 4G PAYG SIM (and only 3 works here) and a rummage through the ‘box where old consumer electronics go to die’ scored me this ancient router which still works absolutely fine. I mean it’s probably a bit insecure, but with this “professional” install it’s offering up 20ish meg and that’ll run a whole load of quite important teams call tomorrow – none of which would have been appropriate to join in a Cafe. Won’t be watching much Netflix tho! Although I will move the router to the house in the evening if only so I can say “Yes Jenn, that box IS the internet’ 🙂

Top work & you kept it vaguely mountain bike related.

Spent an hour this afternoon putting the remains of a neighbours garage roof in their garage. The house is empty (for sale) at the moment but another neighbour and I decided loose roofing might pose a risk given its still gusty.

I have emailed the estate agents to tell them the state of play.
