    Do any forum dwellers use, or have any experience of infra-red heating panels (such as this one: IR Heater)?

    I’m considering using one to heat my soon-to-be-built garden office, but not sure how good they will be.

    They’re great. Massively popular in Sweden. Does the same thing as gas heater really.

    Just looked at the link, they seem to be the next generation as the ones we used in Sweden typically have the tube visible. Ahum.

    So ignore my advice, I can only answer for the lower tech version.

    Thanks Matt – so you mean more like this sort of thing?

    Don’t they heat up the air in the entire room? These new ones claim to only heat up the people and surfaces in the room, making them more efficient.

    We have them at work, I must admit I was sceptical at first but they seem to work well, but i guess we will have to see when it gets cold, and all the girls in the office complain that it’s too warm and have to keep turning it down…

    A big bones is that they don’t take up wall space like a rad would.

    In Sweden you typically use them outdoors actually, on the “altan” – which is typically a semi enclosed area with a roof covering either half of the floor surface or more (typically) so you out the infra heaters on to keep warm basically. They work fine, tend to attract mozzies in Sweden but this country isn’t blessed with them. They work fine.

    They work really well. I have one in my bathroom, absolutely brilliant thing.

    Where did you source yours from Snoopy?

    I now realise it was from the same peopel as on the link on your post.

    It’s electric, so it’ll cost 2 times what the same heat from gas will.

    does that matter if this is true;

    That’s where I’m a little sceptical about the technology – fair enough if it heats up people and (dark) surfaces in the same way that the sun can even if it’s cold outside. But I’m not sure that it would necessarily keep you warm if the room itself is cold. Either way, there’s no way I’ll be piping gas into the cabin, so whatever solution I go for it will need to be electric.

    Based on the feedback here though, I reckon I’ll give it a shot.
