I’ve always admired Olly, for his forthrightness and honesty. I think he’s a total breath of fresh air compared to many of the shysters and bullshitters in football management today. Indeed, Bacon Face, Whinger etc would do well to take lessons in humility from him.

As regards Rooney; he’s spot on. Jumped up spoilt prick thinks an entire football club should revolve around him, without having anywhere near sufficient respect for the best manager in club football for the last 20 years, and one of he greatest managers ever. He should feel proud to play for one of the greatest clubs in World football, ungracious ****. I hate Man Utd, but I think Rooney’s actions and behaviour is utterly disgraceful, and damaging to himself, his team-mates, his club, and ultimately, football. Demanding obscene wages, when many in his own home town struggle to make ends meet. He needs to take a step back and realise how lucky he is in life; without football, what would he be? The bloke can hardly string a coherent sentence together, has a nasty temper and little respect for others.

Manchester Utd have won one more domestic trophy, but Liverpool have won more trophies overall. So, I’ll give you that, as long as you admit (well it doesn’t matter if you do or don’t really) that Liverpool are the most successful English club.

Love Ian Hollaway – rants like that are magic. Total bollax but brilliant. The big problem football has its that it has to follow European Employment Law – Bosman is basically a fudge to get round this a bit. In Rooney’s case Man Utd have the problem that his contract expires in 18 months time. If they don’t sell him he can leave at the end. Ian appears to be stating that this should not happen and Rooney belongs to Man Utd until they no longer want him.

Im not sure I agree with him – however he is a great character and I love his columns and conferences.

I work for my employer with a contract yet I’m free to leave and go elsewhere – the transfer money shouldn’t have anything to do with it – you don’t “own” that player based on the transfer fee – the fee is only there to encourage other clubs to release the player from there contract and as compensation for that.

IMO the only way to fix things like this is to ban transfer fees and restrict contracts to 2 years maximum – the good players will stay at the good clubs or where they can see clubs improving if midtable. This will work 2 ways with clubs not becoming ruined by large contracts over long periods (Marcelino at Newcastle is my example if your aware of this).

I think Holloway’s point, is that Rooney is a Man U player until such time as they sell him or his contract finishes, and should show loyalty and respect to his employers, colleagues and fans. The time, money and effort Man U have invested in Rooney is immense, and Holloway is arguing that the club should still be entitled to something, even after his contract has expired.

What Man U are entitled to at least, is for Wayne to at least show some respect to them. Stroppy ungrateful ****.

I think Rooneys issue is that he’s got caught with his pants down (again) and is fed up with the same media that built him up (and paid for his wedding) knocking him down. Holloway is funny, that is all though as the content of his musings are a load of tosh generally.

I don’t see a problem with Rooney refusing to sign a new contract, Manu are in decline and in the 6 or so years he has been there not many of the signings are regulars and definitely not game winners with the exception of nani who seems to be developing nicely. Just look at this season, 5 draws already.

Not really sure where he will go although Chelsea might be an option. Drogba and Amelia are both getting on and he would suit their style a lot more than barca or real.

If he decides to go to Chelsea, and Ferguson says yes to it – unlikely IMO, he will play in the reserves as both Drogba and Anelka know where the goal is and he forgot how to score.

Ian Holloway has made a name for himself by saying what he thinks and he can be funny at times, he knows how to work the media to his benefit.

When he was at Plymouth he was always saying there is not enough loyalty in football. Right up until the day before he left he was saying he loved Plymouth and could not imagine going elsewhere, the next day he was leicester City manager.

AFAIC He should be at QPR, them were the days (I was even shown around the stadium when he was there – an integral part of cycle training course in the area was a visit to Loftus Lane).
