anecdotally (from reddit) I’m reading that republican politocos repeatedly voted against supplying funding for hurricane aid, because that would be communist or something, and are now attacking the democrats for not giving aid, even though they (republicans) blocked the bill in the fist place..

The logic is sound, it’s just also evil- if a win for america is a win for the ruling party then a disaster for america is a disaster for the democrats. These people are praying for the biggest storm, the most deaths, the most damage. Treason but with extra words.

Who’d want to be a meteorologist in America, when the fascist Right want to kill you because you’re causing the hurricanes?

There’s currently a USAF Super Hercules sitting a couple of thousand feet above the NOAA P-3, I’m wondering if it’s there on a just-in- case basis…

I don’t agree, but the US election will tell.. there’s a lot of ‘internet noise’ from horrible people (elon musk) which is paid for and squewing the polls, I think, and hope.

Why do they always give hurricanes nice friendly names? They should name them after infamous criminals.

Milton Johnson (born May 15, 1950), known as The Weekend Murderer, is an American serial killer and mass murderer who committed ten known murders in a series of murders that spanned over three months in Will County, Illinois.

He escaped on a Greyhound heading south and lived out his days working as a bartender at a Tampa holiday resort where he invented the Hurricane cocktail.

    Embellished that for you.

There’s a lot of murder in that paragraph but he was only part time.

We had a tornado rip through here the other night. Landfall was approximately half a mile from my house.
I never received an order for evacuation, heard any sirens, just slept through it.
Roof damage, walls blown over , dingy boats picked up and thrown around.

Just in case the Russians have a wave of Bombers (the planes not the Forks) hidden in the eye of the storm?

I just don’t understand how it’s still 50/50 at the bookies

A lot of Americans hate the very concept of government, they (very naively) think that it opposes the concept of ‘freedom’ or, as they see it, the fundamental human right to do whatever they want whenever they want. So they will vote for whoever appears to promise the least.

In pondering this it’s important to remember that their electoral system is even more of a sad joke than ours is.

The anti-government attitude is why many Americans voted for Trump the first time in my experience of asking them. It’s as if they think a high functioning civil society will miraculously appear without the combined effort of people to create it – i.e. a government.

It’s sort of understandable if you believe their founding mythology of Western towns running by themselves, but of course rhey weren’t.
