I'm struggling to do this and am unable to access the instructional videos posted by Hope. the problem is one pad engages before the other. I've tried pumping the levers but then they have to be forced apart – the brakes are brand-new. Any ideas?
    cheers

Grab a screwdriver and push the back of the pad that's in the right postion. This then slides on the pin, flexes the rotor and pushes the offending pad back without any risk to pad material on either pad.

    ok will try
how come the pads are now stuck on the disc – surely they should return??

can anyone else help with this?
On the avids its simply a case of loosing off the calipers and pumping the brakes a few times and they centralise
Why cant Hope use a similar system?

You need to reset the brake.
So take the caliper off, then using a screwdriver (be careful not to damage your pads, you could remove them also) push the pistons fully back as far as they will go.

Then replace pads if you removed them, mount caliper but leave the bolts loose so the caliper can move freely. Then pull the lever hard to clamp the caliper on the disc.

tighten the mounting bolts. then pump the lever some more just to be sure.

It should be bang on the money. if not look carefully as to which pad engages first and then simply loosen teh mounts a tad and slide in the opposite direction so that the pads engage at the same time.

    Hope that helps

Forgot to mention don't forget when you reset to set the pad contact as far out as possible. I usually give it a a feturns inwards when i do it.

I "fought" with my M4's for ages. Followed the video's, "reset" them about 10 times, nothing helped, one piston was always coming out faster and bending the rotor. Finally solved the problem by replacing the brakes with Magura Marta's. The new brakes worked as well as the Magura Louise I had before the Hopes… No noise, fast centralization, as good modulation and similar power.

    cheers appreciate the replies guys
dirtynap – this is what im doing – had it set exactly but one pad engaged slightly before the other
however, the pads then wont return??
will remove pads and force pistons apart and try again but should this happen?

I'm still running Hope E4s. Fantastic brake. However, because there are 4 pistons, there's always going to be one that moves a bit quicker than the others. This will in time blalance out. However, a little drop of finish line stanchion lube or silicon oil on the seals of the slower pistons, then work them back on fourth a bit usually helps.

If both pads are in contact with the disc then you have sticky pistons, and need to give them a clean/lube. Otherwise it is as Onzadog said with the screwdriver on the back of the pad while pumping the lever.

You shouldn't need to move the calipers at all, they should be centered on the disc!

Be careful if you're reseting the pistons with the pads off. They're quite soft and will damage easily if you use a screwdriver, this is why the instructions suggest leaving the pads in place so that the force is evenly distributed.

On the video it says to align the disc in the centre of the caliper, there should be a line on the caliper to help align it accurately with the disc. Once its centralised by eye tighten it up and pump the brake a bit. One pad will contact the disc first, so like mentioned you need to gently push the offending piston back into the caliper a bit. Do this as onzadog mentioned. Push the pad that contacts the disc second against the disk and other pad, this should push the 1st contacting pad into the calpier a bit. Pump the brake again and repeat if necessary. It may take a bit but its worth getting right!

Hope specifically say do use the loosen the caliper, pump the lever to engage both pads onto the rotor and then tighten the caliper bolts method of alignment.

It took me while to get mine sorted out but once they are they are fantastic brakes.

You mean do NOT?… "Hope specifically say do use the loosen the caliper, pump the lever to engage both pads onto the rotor and then tighten the caliper bolts method of alignment".
