I work from home 90% of the time and need a new “office” chair.

Needs to be slimish as the office doubles as a bedroom so space is always at a premium.

    Any suggestions.

Vibrate option and beer storage option not on the immediate tick list.

I use a Giroflex G64 of some description.
I picked it up cheap off ebay.
It is really adjustable and suits me well.

    Aeron.

    Spendy but comfy.

Look at the Ikea options, not expensive but suited my backside.

One of these. It’s dead comfy. Doesn’t even need a cushion.

Yes, but can you spin around on it and make it go up and down when you’re bored?

Or this, if you’re really bored?

I use a 80cm yoga ball. As you can’t sit still on it I find that my back never hurts.
My wife uses an Eames replica

4-5 years ago I wanted a Humanscale for my home office as I didn’t want to spend silly money on a Herman Millar. It was also smaller/thinner. Tried one out in a store and it was a bad fit on all counts. Chap showed me a Leap which I thought was too big, but it was perfect. Bought it and have sat in it almost every day since. In fact I’d say it’s comfort on an epic scale.

Motto of the story: if you’re going to spend good dollars, then go try out some chairs.

I have an Ikea Marcus as mentioned above but that has just about given up after about 10 years. I’m also looking at the Aeron and they seem to be available for around £300 second hand. The Marcus is quite slim so could be a good fit for the OP.

My Humanscale Liberty is great and I’ve had it for something like 6 years now, used every day and still looks as new.

Serious question – do you need one?

I have an office office, and I’m alternating between my standing desk and a chaise longue. The combination is rather good.

You are also working in a somewhat, er, select environment too..!

(I use a spare dining room chair in my home office – it’s not especially comfortable. Might also try a yoga ball for a while.)

I meant the OP could stand up, until it was time to go sit on the sofa for a bit, rather than that he should invest in a chaise longue specifically for taking naps on!

Tried loads recently – Herman Miller, Humanscale etc. The Herman Miller Aeron was much more comfortable than I expected – like the way it tilts forwards and backwards with my pelvis. Humanscale was uncomfortable I thought. eBay have several outlets for second hand office gear and you can try most of it at John Lewis.
I ended up going for the Warner chair from JL – which seemed more supportive than the Aeron – not adjustable though – it was much cheaper of course.
Also have the Markus from Ikea which is decent if you want a high back. Does not cup my arse and lower back quite as well as the Warner though 😀

What’s the budget? Some of the ones mentioned above are extortionate.

Hundreds of us with Aerons in office – with few complaints
I have sat the same one for the last 8 years.
Expensive new – available second hand – and you can get all the parts – different sizes too.
Mesh chairs are especially good in the summer when you do not have aircon in your home office.

A firm I used to work for had all Aeron chairs for staff.

They’re great – unless you keep your wallet in your back pockets (as I did then) as the added protrusion causes the mesh to wear your trousers away.

Look for a 2nd hand Aeron on ebay, collect only. I got one in great condition (with burgundy mesh which I actually think looks pretty smart) for £160.

My brother (who is a contract furnisher) swears by these:

    Okamura CP

But even at his trade price, I couldn’t afford one 🙂
I’ll get an Eames copy at some point.

Can you get work to pay for it for you?

Herman miller aeron – don’t scrimp on something you spend so much time in.

I couldn’t quite stretch to an Aeron, so I got a Mirra, also by Herman Miller. It’s excellent, and still looks like new after 5 or 6 years.

Have a look at some of the ‘less racy’ gaming chairs on overclockers or GT Omega pro office chairs. For the budget end JYSK have some mesh backed that are worth a test sit.

That Ikea one posted up there is good, prefer it to the Herman Miller Aeron

I’ve got a Boss Delphi low back in grey leather – paid about £90 s/h on eBay. 2004 model but still feels like best office chair i’ve ever sat on!
