Rusty – so sorry to hear about your loss. Tough times. FWIW (and excuse me if this in inappropriate), it’s All Souls’ Day this Sunday. In your place last year, I found this to be an wonderful opportunity to share loss with others. Even stripping aside the religious connotations, it was a comforting time to think about those we have lost with others in the same situation. Many churches have very simple services for this purpose – light on formality, much more about a chance to remember and/or prayer for those we miss. (If this is an unwelcome suggestion/idea excuse me.)

My dad always made a point of attending when he was alive and I try to do the same now even if it would mean a 250 mile round trip this Sunday to where he is buried.

    Cheers folks.

Mrs S is coping very well.
More relief that her mum’s not suffering anymore than anything else at the mo.
I have no idea how she’s kept it all together – she really does amaze me every single day.

    Thank you for your comments.
Woppit, I know mate, I agree with you completely.
    Similar experiences and conclusions here.
It’s just nice now and again to let your imagination run wild.

THM – Of course your remarks aren’t inappropriate.
I love the infinite variety of ways that humans can be decent to each other.
My mum was a Catholic and the support I received from our local church when she died was overwhelming.

    Love is love.
I’m sure we’ve all been through times when it’s been a bit scarce, so questioning it when it’s given freely isn’t something I’d like to do.

Once again thanks – I will pass your kind thoughts on to Sue.

We are not wholly bad or good
Who live our lives under Milk Wood,
And Thou, I know, wilt be the first
To see our best side, not our worst.

O let us see another day!
Bless us all this night, I pray,
And to the sun we all will bow
And say, good-bye – but just for now.

For what it’s worth, as an atheist since I was very young, I have contemplated death a lot, including my inevitable own.

This has led me to simply accept as a fact that we are born, we live and then we die. That is to say – cease to exist.

I like to think we live in a deterministic universe that repeatedly goes through the big bang infinity times, meaning that we are all destined to have the idiot time of our idiot lives repeatedly for the rest of eternity.

Will probably be proven wrong by the physicists though.
