Planes don’t count! They’ve got the whole ‘huge scale death from above’ thing going on, which immediately renders them too cool for any objective assessment of aesthetics

Shall we discuss Harley Davidson? Surely the worlds greatest surviving example of selling stone age, hideously ugly pig-iron to gullible half-wits for laughable sums of money?

Those are the only nice ones I could find binners. That’s a corvette, the last one.

“American-made vehicles with two/four wheels” is what the man said…

I’ve just been looking at the Google image results for “American made cars” and for the life of me I can’t find anything that is really that good looking. The AC Cobra was nearly there, but it just looks too muscular to be really attractive and when you compare to something like a Ferrari 250 GT California or a 250 GTO it just looks like something that ran off the road right into the ugly truckstop to get a full tank of ugly and some new ugly tyres.

I mean, tell this is not a thing of beauty:

It’s alright but it’s not the nicest looking alfa out there.

If they ban porn, this will do me.

That’s not a thing of beauty.

PS I’m no fan at all of American cars, most are awful mechanically and visually, but I just wanted to show binners that there were SOME pretty ones 🙂

I do seem to have taken streamlining onboard a bit – here’s a design for a classroom device I’m just getting prototyped 🙂

@willard – agree on the 427 but the 289 was pretty:

errm, everyone knows that the AC Cobra was a British design based on the AC Ace and made in Thames Ditton, don’t they?

No more antiquated than a Triumph, or many other motorbikes for that matter.

@wasnotwas – if we took into account all the things that were created/conceived of/designed here, then exploited to huge commercial gain elsewhere, the list would be hooooooge!

Please, someone tell me this wasn’t thought of overe here….

that’s true but I was referring specifically to the AC because it was being touted as a good ‘American design’ when it really isn’t in any shape or form an American design.

Are you seriously suggesting that Harley Davidsons are in the same bracket as a modern Japanese superbike. I know they cost about the same. In fact the Harley will be more expensive. And they both have 2 wheels. But I think the similarity ends there

You can have this agricultural monstrosity for a snip af £16 grand

or this for 4 grand less

Anyone who even has to think about that for more than a millisecond needs their bumps feeling

Well, it could be a styling choice.

I was genuinely shocked to be told by a co-worker RE new cars “I don’t care about anything other than the styling. It can be shit quality as long as it looks cool”.

    Those sorts are out there!

The Americans are designing some good looking cars at the moment

    eg. http://www.cadillac.com/2013-cts-luxury-coupe.html

I drove a SRX last time. It was pretty good looking if you like SUVs

Out there tomorrow to the US – I’ll keep my eyes open for good looking cars.

That looks like its been designed by a teenage boy, in between masturbation sessions, having been up all night on his playstation, then rendered in a primitive 3D package. Its absolutely hideous!

Yeah, I’ve never liked it, though on Jalopnik they get quite the wide-on for it.

@binners in the same vein you can have this throwback for £26k:

Thing is, its ok to take your styling tips off something from a by-gone era, if that era produced a true design classic.

But Harley Davidsons have always looked like an assortment of left over scafolding poles carelessly welded around an engine sourced from an old industrial pump. And in line with every other American automotive product, handle like a fully laden supertanker

Say what you like about the exterior of that Bentley, but I think the interior is quite something…

I stand corrected, DeLorean himself was ‘merken, the car was designed by Guigiaro in italy ( 😯 ), then built in the Emerald Isle.

    So there you go.

That Harley Vs R1 decision has caused quite a bit of discussion in the office, with a pretty even split between people. Personally, I’d go for the R1, but some people think the Harley would be cooler.

What I want to know though is when someone is going to build a bike as awesome as either a Tron Lightcycle, or Akira’s motorbike.

I think the correct answer is **** the Yamaha and the Harley!! I want this!!! 😀

Which, somewhat unbelievably, you’d still get four grand change from, as opposed to the 2 wheeled American tractor! 😯

Binners you do talk some automotive crap! It’s obvious you hate American cars/bikes but to say they all handle like tankers is very ignorant. I could take you out in my friends 2012 vet and take you around corners so fast in the thing you would s*** yourself. Remember most of these cars were designed for totally different roads to ours and its only lately they have been trying to sell competitively in our market and even then not strongly.

Do you mind?! I try not to limit it to just automotive! 😉
