FFS, it is July and i have just put the mudguards back on the road bike, can't face any more crap from the roads.

mudguards may look crap but at least i know that i won't have that pleasant feeling of a sodden chamois riding to work.

It's worse than winter on my local trails at the minute. My locals are pretty pisspoor as it is, but now they're both too slidey to be any fun but also completely overgrown with nettles and brambles at face height. Can't wait to get off to glentress soon.

Another huge black cloud moving slowly over Bristol, undoubtedly like several others over the past few days to deposit its contents shortly over the streets below.

How'd have thought it could rain any time of the year, must be all this swine flu.

it can rain at any time of year, agreed, it would be nice if this doesn't happen again.

I feel the same, and my hip and knee are both whinging like it's winter. And my bikes are complaining too by having lots of mechanical issues.

today i did 3hrs on the road and completely missed the rain that was forecast, yesterday however was supposed to be no rain according to met check and i got ubber pissed on for a solid hour before i went home. no need to wash the helmet or bike now though.. still enjoyed it though

dont like commuting in the wet but light rain doesnt bother me when i'm out having fun, its just the looking through the window before setting out that bothers me.

dont let it get to you, crappy weather now and then is a certainty! just like death! enjoy it whilst you can…

I don't think mud guards are going to help you stay dry riding through there.

    I just went running instead.

I have just started my three weeks shutdown not going away this year so I am off to pray now.

If you can put mudguards on your bike, you don't have swine flu. Fact. 😆

Middle of winter here in Brisbane. Blue skies, cool mornings, 20 degrees in the afternoons. Damn, I miss the UK weather!

Wasn't it last winter people were posting on here about how the trails were baked hard and bikes were coming back from a ride just a little dusty?

    Something seems broken!

God there's some moaners on here!
If you remember a few weeks back it was roasing! A few days of rain DOES NOT maks a bad summer! It's the UK. You're never going to get 4 months of pure unbroken sunshine you know, and there's loads of time for more hot and dre weather. We've had some rain round here, but it just soaks straight into the parched ground. Trails are better now than when there was 2 inches of dust on them!

yeah, know what you mean, it's winter here in Aus.

    No, wait…

Spent Sunday afternoon playing with my kids in the dappled shade of our back yard (garden), 23+.c up here on the Sunshine Coast.

    I'm so glad I'm over here! :o)

/flipside – Summer means 6 months of rain, albeit warm shower rain.

Summer's a nightmare, isn't it? I could hardly sleep last night thanks to the (slight) sunburn on the back of my neck, spending all morning in the pool was probably a bad idea 🙂

Quite true; BUT it has been raining quite consistently for the last 2 weeks and the forcast is the same all this week (certainly down here in SW).

I've ridden over 200 miles in 8 days, I'm having a whale of a time. Yes, I've got soaked quite a few times during the last week but it's not like it's icy rain.

Stop moaning you jessies, you live in Blighty, it's supposed to be like this.

"If you remember a few weeks back it was roasting"

And I wasn't complaining at all. I absolutley love hot, sunny weather and dusty/drifty trails – it feels like I'm abroad. Will summer please resume?

Oh come on guys get a grip. Up to 3 weeks ago, we have had superb weather since march. OK so July hasn't been great but its not the end of the world.

Bright blue skies here the heavy cloud bursts and one day of solid rain in the last few weeks are a distant memory, just a shame I won't be riding today.

Weather's been pants for July so far – but weather forecast looked reasonable today – Carol Kirkwood even gave hope that the west country would be fairly pleasant today – no waterproofs for me then!

Bombing off to work in my new Cervelo test team Jersey – I was Carlos Sastre for sure! Smashing up the first climb, stood up and on the drops, rarrr! Hear me roar indeed!

Then the rain came, omg, it's 2007/08 all over again! I quickly fell back into the saddle, and then very quickly I fell into 39-25, my shoes started to fill up, my glasses fogged up, my legs went lactic (probably psychologically more than anything) and the reality that I was weak, skinny englishman on a bike way too fast for him in a country with weather so far from perfect for cycling hit me like a ton of bricks.

I got to mud dock (bike shed facilities) positively soaked – why the hell do I spend so much time and money riding these stupid machines!! I've got most of my kit hung up at mud dock praying it will dry (unlikely) and my shoes socks and gloves are stuffed here at work with a few copies of the Metro!

But do you know what – got a club ride tonight and can't wait to go riding again!

I got a touch of sunburn yesterday (NE Scotland) on a 5hr road ride. We did get caught in one shower and the last 15-20 miles were on wet roads but overall it was mild and warm, except on the big climb when it was sunny and hot!

I wouldn't mind so much if it only rained when I was sitting at my desk. As it is, it just rains when I'm not at work… 👿

Did 60 miles locally on the road yesterday, got rained on 3 times (I think) but did get the sun as well, I was bitching about the headwind that seemed to follow me around…It's Summer in the UK, it rains…

Perhaps it's all building up to a lovely Indian summer/autumn (possibly my fave riding conditions…).

well in my part of the west country the weather has been excellent since christmas, for the most part. we've had about three weeks where it's rained every day, aside from that it's rained mostly at night. the trails were so dusty grip was becoming less and less. the local stuff around here has been damped down nicely, and they're all really grippy and fast again now. for the most part the ground is sucking up the water like a sponge – verified by my paddling mate who is moaning that none of the water is making it into the rivers. it's already been a great summer, and we're not half way through yet!
