I’ve had mine since June and I’m still learning how to use it, last night I was riding with someone who also had one and we were able to swap routes wirelessly, but you know that charlie as you were there at the time (I should have read who was posting first) 😳

    Hehe…. I was reading that thinking…….? I WAS THERE!

My Forerunner appears to be dying, battery is failing slowly.
And i’ve found the 705 for a bargin price!

I went back up there this morning and found my back light at Triscombe 😀
If the 705’s a bargin, it would be rude not to snap it up.

Taken from last nights post about the Edge 605

I’ve got a 705 with TOPO & City Navigator, you can view them both at the same time. I’ve found it handy as I don’t have a GPS unit for the car, and I can use it as GPS for the car, rides & geotagging.

That said, the maps ‘off the beaten track’ are useless, I don’t see bridleways or anything. They are useful for finding pubs & petrol stations!

The Edge’s are great if you don’t have a good memory at remembering rides! You ride a route for the first time, logging the route. Upload it to your PC, add in some instructions (turns, warnings). Now you can ride the route months later.

I’ve only used the training function once, but thought it was pretty good, but not my cuppa tea.

Oh and I’m on my 3rd cadence sensor, I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, they last one ride!

I use Garmin Connect to log my routes, and SportsTracks on the laptop to keep a log of the information (Garmin Training Centre is rrrubish). I also use BikeRouteToaster for making the routes.

This website has loads of info on the Edge’s.

I don’t see bridleways or anything.

Mine shows bridleways, footpaths and tracks on the Quantocks but doesn’t differentiate between the three.

I bought mine from Amazon – it was ‘used’ but I think it had only been mounted on a bike and never used in anger. Cost me £200 and then I sold the cadence sensor for £30 making it £170 including HRM.

    No additional software though.

I found them for £235 with HRM, that bargin enough?

Do the GPS gadgets work well in and out of the car? I’ve got a tomtom, hate it, if I can sell it on ebay and get something that’ll work on both bikes and when walking that would be great and in the car too.

I thought using the mobile would be great but I seem to be hit by large phones bills at the end of the month when doing so, is there a cheap way of using GPS on the phone?

The tomtom seems very user unfriendly, maybe its me, I thought I was good at getting used to technology but I found it a pain in the arse. Its not remembering routes I find a problem but being able to save them for a later date sounds mindblowing.
