lead the way my good man!

I dont know enough cars to know any. Although if someone else posts one, I’ll tell you if it’ll be a classic or not.

Apparently a classic has to be 20 years or older, I’m sure alot of the above must be getting on for that. They’re all awesome no doubt.

But what about “modern” classics i.e. last five years or so?

Nissan GTR, a very good example of a modern car. I can see it being a classic in time.

Does anyone have a definition of a classic car?

I’m not sure I can see the Golf R32 and Focus RS becoming classics tbh. The original Golfs are almost classics now but can a 5th/6th generation of a particular design be iconic enough to reach classic status. The original hot hatches were groundbreaking in their concept/design as well as being good cars.

182 trophy… it avoids the chavs? Due to insurance or a price premium?

It’s a more expensive and more complicated beast. Shocks (which cost 10x the price of normal 182 shocks) need rebuilt every 40,000 miles which would probably scare some off. With only 500 rhd versions built they do command more cash too, around £1,500 more than a standard, cup-packed or Cup version. Not a huge amount more unless you look at percentages (other 182s are around £3k now).

Probably most importantly, they wouldn’t get a choice of colour 🙂

    P.S. No 182 is chavvy…… well mine isn’t – honest 😐

    All Peugeots but….
    205 1.9gti
    306 and 106 Rallye
406v6 coupe. Big brembo 4pots and 200bhp through a lazy v6 and it was pretty too.

Completely agree. Stick a big engine and 4wd in a dull car thats on its 6th incarnation. Not a classic at all. Surely it only appeals to die hard VW fans?

I mentioned the Ka becoming a classic in another thread a week or so ago. Can’t remember what thread it was. Also mentioned the Puma.

Struggling to think of many others….

    Original Civic Type R?

It was a tough choice between the A3 and the R8 but the A3 wins as this is the economy era and if your co2 is in triple figures its so not cool or classic anymore 🙁

Subaru P1 if not already will be a classic car some day. Looking at these modern cars I think the BMW 1M has all the attributes to become a classic its such a great little hot hatch just shame about the price. Its no Ford RS500 though I think that will still be kicking around as an all time great in another 25 years.

Agree with bearnecessities, the DS3 is one of those, fairly rare, examples of the designer just getting everything right, from pretty much every angle. I love those cars, in exactly the same way I fell in love with the Puma, the first time I saw one. Even now, when I see a Puma I get a bit misty-eyed, I really loved that little car, it was beautiful to look at, and so much fun to drive.
Given the money, I’d have another Puma, an FRP, and a DS3 Racing.

    Suzuki Supercarry/Bedford Rascal. Sliding door.
    K11 Nissan Micra 1.0 steel wheels/unpainted trim.
    Citroen AX GT.
    Honda Beat.
    Audi A2.

Performance wise, anything high revving, normally aspirated.

I think any Performance version of a Hot Hatch will be Classic.

Look at how many Escort RS Turbos where about in the 90s along with the Cosworths and now they are a rare car.

The R32 Golf, standard GTIs will hold there value.

If we are allowed a new car which I think will be Classic, its the Focus ST Estate as not many people are going to buy the Estate compared to the Hatch.

Alfa 156, good early ones already getting rare, and a lot of the ones you do see these days sport dubious ‘enhancements’

In 15 years time a decent one will be rare as hens teeth. Decent looking car that drives well (for a FWD). Definite future classic.

Garage Dweller got it right with the Peugeot 406 coupe. One of the most beautiful cars of its time and relatively rare. A dead cert future classic IMO.

How about the land rover defender or
    Citroen BX GTi?

    Alfa 159

no – 156 = the 159 is just a muscled-up copy without the rear door handles – not as much of a classic. 156 was the best looking alfa for a while, if they had just been reliable BMW would have been in trouble as the value was loads better and they drove better.

    Fiat 500 obviously.

Smart car and the Smart roadster.

It pains me to mention a BMW, but the Z8?

    Lotus Elise?

    That DS3 above.

    Prius.

First mainstream hybrid. They are going to take dedication to keep on the road. So in 20-30 years time, there are not going to be many around.

Hopefully Audi TTs and BMW Z3s will be forgotten one day.

That’s what people used to say about Capris and Escorts.

almost any of the “first cars”

ie cars that folk remember fondly as their first cars and have an emotional attachment to.

    Clios , Saxos , Corsas , Novas , micras , chicquichentos , puntos etc etc ……

    Elise? Bang on.

2CV SHOULD be there but I don’t think it ever really did outside a few people.

elise is already a classic – tried to buy one recently.

even an old mk1 fetches silly money for milage and condition

seems to have only ever been an enthusiasts car.

    You’re all doing it wrong!

Seeing as the MG-B is the definitive classic car in the UK, I guess a classic car is a performance 2 seater that is orders of magnitude slower than a base model family 5 door of the same era.

    Now, go!

I hope it isn’t the definitive classic – I was astonished when I went in a mates at how nasty/poor it was compared to my dad’s Alfa 1750 GTV of the same vintage.
