A couple of Police Divers I know have D1 5SRT (specialist search and recovery team) and J2 USU (underwater search unit).

Shame they’ve just disbanded the dive section…!

For short time landlord of a boozer in my local village had P1.18
    MAN
on his IOM registered SUV. It did read instantly as pub man and got him constant grief from the law thanks to the black bolt cover between the 1s.
Guy I knew in the surf industry near Penzance had H1 5URF on his Honda NSX. Again it eventually got sold on as it was a constant hassle.

On the one hand, I think it’s ridiculous. On the other, fair enough!

There used to be a large SUV around Nottingham with the reg B16 0MAR. A colleague explained to me that it belonged to a well known purveyor of gentlemens special interest movies.

I used to see a Jag with the plate CAV17Y. I always hoped it belonged to a dentist.

One of the cleverest I know of is

    WUN 234V

The current over spotted it on a new car and stopped the owner and offered to buy the car (and plate) when they wanted to sell it.

No idea what it’s on these days

I was offered that number plate a long time ago by the family of the previous owner. He jumped to his death off the Menai Bridge following allegations of kiddy fiddling.

Saw M155 NAG in tescos car park last week. Bittersweet divorce settlement?

Used to see S4TAN around Preston on an all black Range rover.

There is a guy in london with 2 cars, with complementary number plates.

Car number one is a sports car – number plate 2B

Car number two is a small hatchback – number plate NOT 2B

Not quite right – it’s 2 BE and NOT 2B

    This chap in fact:

I absolutely love it, and it makes me smile everytime I see it. Doensn’t matter a jot if no-one else gets it…

They don’t bother me but I do think they’re a bit silly but each to their own. Why I don’t get is how someone can ‘absolutely love’ a number plate on a car. Makes you smile every single time you look at your car number plate, now that’s a bit odd. You would think after a few weeks you would get bored of smiling inanely at your car’s registration mark.

every private plate makes me laugh, though probably not not in the way the owner intended.*

*similar to the smirk induced by teens wearing trousers that are only just help up by their penis while wearing a baseball cap at a jaunty angle with the moniker of a team or city that they have neither visited or support emblazoned on it.

One of these is mine and one is not.
One makes me smile and the other is just to disguise the age and hide the fact it is based on the one on the left.

one is a nice car with a silly numberplate, the other 2 both look like they belong to hairdressers and one looks like it’s made of plastic but is pretending to be something else (and failing).

While I can sort of appreciate folk having a self-deprecating dig at their profession/trade with a numberplate (which is funny for, oooh, 5 seconds), this is one area in which the Yanks have nailed it better than we have as they call them “vanity plates”. That’s what they are.

Did they make the Z3 pre 1973? Or are the black plates there just waiting for the police to pull you and make you pay a fine?

My neighbour has H8 CRC and her husband CRC H8. I’m guessing they must have had some serious delivery or warranty issues.

My cousin Beverley was bought H15 BEV by her husband at the time.

The divorce was not long after….

Anyone around Brighton see Dave Day in his new Bentley – it has the most amazing paint job and MR LION plate which he keep getting fines for as he has obviously moved the L to the right

Saw it a while back, I think it was a sort of chromed copper purple flip paint job? I was working and it seemed like the crowds just stopped in their tracks and watched it cruise past, phones were out taking pics, no one watching where they were going 🙂 Bit of a show stopper.

X6 – BELI 4ND or similar can’t remember but thought perhaps that should come as standard with the car.

Any way I would be a bit of a spoilsport with these things and propose we do number plates sensibly like the rest of Europe with state producing standard format plates.

Much as I don’t like mis-spacing or using numbers as letters I succumbed and have R3TOX on my motorbike. Opposite of detox. And an album by Turbonegro as it turns out.

For the fans of slightly less obvious ones my Dad had <something>666 DXL on his old car. The 666 is a bit of a family in-joke and DXL is 540 in Roman numerals. The car was a BMW 540.

And referring back to the first page, I once saw a pic of a car owned by a paraplegic, registration HA5 1 LEG 🙂

Sorry to resurrect, but spotted this a couple of days ago. The thing that got my attention was of course the addition of the letters “DSG”, signifying that the owner has opted for automatic transmission. Incredible 🙂
