Large size noggin. (Currently in Large Bell Four40).
Lightweight and breathable – he’s doing bigger stuff but will be pedalling in it.
LBS’s don’t really have any in for our budget, he had a look in 3 yesterday in Edinburgh.
    Budget £100ish.

His brother has a nice Troy Lee Stage, but that’s way out of price range…

Endura have one that might work…? There’s a few 7idp or Leatt’s that look ok too.

The Stage is a great helmet and sometimes pops up for £130 if you’re not in a desperate hurry.

Fox Proframe is another good choice although they do have a reputation for cracking where the chinbar attaches. However, I wrote mine off at BPW and the chinbar survived intact.

That was the old/original version. Not heard of that since the newer one came out a year or 2 ago. Think it’s even further away from the stated budget though.

IXS Trigger is a nice air-y thing. Only a couple of shell sizes though so can be tricky to get a good fit (smaller one was too small for me, larger was like wearing a bucket). Often deals to be had

Pedal Power in West Calder stocks the Enduras, still not really close to budget though

Bell Super3R air. I’ve got one for sale brand new for £150 but will lower it for a forum mate.

IXS Trigger FF sometimes comes up on sale around £100 ish. Really light and airy to pedal around in. Mine fits really well – it’s got a dual on the back like normal half shell helmets to tighten the harness thing inside – I prefer that to my 7idp full face helmet which is a lot heavier / warmer.

I really like my Urge Archi-Deltar lightweight FF. It’s pretty basic (no ratchet for fit, or rotational protection gubbins), but comfy, light & cheap. I tried about 5 others on including the TLD, Fox etc equivalents and this fitted best.

I got mine for £80 but a quick search suggests not many places have stock at that price now.

I’ve been very happy with the Endura Singletrack FF helmet, available for £90 here…

Was great in the Alps last year:

Matt – I have an unused Bell Super DH (large) bought in wiggle/crc fire sale that’d be well in that budget. Dropped you a message, but no idea if you’ll get it 🙂

You could get specialized gambits used to be available for that kind of budget. Comfortable on my big head.

I love my Super DH so if you can get one for that price it’s a bargain. It saves me having to take two helmets to places. The fidlock buckle is really easy to use and it definitely fits the lightweight and breathable criteria.

I was going to recommend the same as mines great but they only appear to available at close to rrp now so double the budget.

Dianese Linea, probably the best lid I’ve had. Windwave have them on eBay.

Don’t helmets usually have an expiry date? I always thought there was a time limit from manufacture. Surely that one is already 6 years old assuming the 2018 is the year and not some sort of fancy name?

I seem to have an odd shape head so struggled a bit with finding one that fits. I wanted a Pro Frame but neither the current or previous versions fit well. Same with the Endura.

Bell fit well so I’ve got a Super Air, but it’s not DH rated and the chin bar is a bit flimsy although it has saved me a couple of times in medium crashes. The Super DH is a step up and the chin bar feels but more sturdy and is DH rated, obviously overall it’s not as light and airy – I’ve just bought one but haven’t worn it yet.

I changed from the old pro frame to a spesh gambit for a summer also trip. Really nice light airy helmet and DH rated. Got mine for £115 I think from Tredz, I think.

    fit is everything.

i`ve a 100% trajecta which is ok but i have to remove the front 2 rotational MIPS thingies or it gives me a headache after about 1.5hrs. really decent ventilation though. and DH certified. can happily pedal in it.

I`ve a endura MT which is OK but pinches my cheekbones after a while. OK ventilation, no mips but DH certified. good for uplifts. too hot to pedal in.

protection is next up. Som of teh above helmets recommended are not DH certified – ie the chinbar isnt strong. (bell super air, Urge etc)

i`d like one thats got Mips and fits nice and is breezy ideally! as i run hot. the 100% is close but not quite.

My previous was a cheap 661 that fitted great but had limited protection and no ventilation.
