So happy that Stroll is confirmed to keep his seat for next year. Maybe next year will be his year to get to grips with this whole F1 thing.

But you’re saying GR doesn’t help unless it benefits him, then giving an example of Hamilton not helping George?

Hamilton could see third was the best he could get – so no point losing time by racing with Lando.

It was so clear in the race George hadn’t got good race pace from the very start. Yes, he got a great start which flattered him but a train soon formed behind him.

And what self respecting driver is going out of their way to help a team mate anyway?

Perez keeping Hamilton at bay to try and help win the championship

Alonso helping Ocon take the win in Hungary

Schumacher doing whatever he could to help Irvine @ Suzuka

they immediately come to mind, but are fairly extreme examples beyond the usual just making sure you don’t gift a pass to someone

The team were telling George to defend 2nd place against Norris and also telling him to manage his pace. It’s in the transcript you posted. 🙂

Averaged across the race, Russell and Hamilton in fact had nearly exactly the same pace (79.84 vs 79.89), despite George having to use the hard tyre which simply didn’t work (for anyone).

Finally a solution to track limits nonsense?

    I’m hoping so

Always thought that they needed a “low grip” surface behind the kerb, so it was a natural time loss for being off-track, rather than a potential advantage. Looks like they can easily remove it for bike or other events, where it might be an issue.

    Lets see if it works

and there’s also a rumour from L’Equipe that Carlos will go to Alpine

Given the almost legendarily miraculous sales powers of Briatore, I’d wouldn’t be at all surprised

(and L’Equipe were correct about Gasly resigning today…).

So, to be clear; Gasly has re-signed to extend his contract, not resigned. 🙂

Stroll apparently staying with Aston for 25 and maybe more.  If it weren’t for his dad I’d put this in the Perez category of “what the hell do they see in him that’s better than a fairly long line of probably quicker but almost definitely cheaper drivers”

It’ll save Lawrence Stroll giving him a living allowance – pop him in the F1 team and let sponsors fund his son-of-a-billionaire lifestyle! 🙂

^^^ That whole demo runs thing stinks.

A demo drive like that would have been decided on weeks ago. You don’t place someone from a different F1 era like Jos in a contemporary F1 car without some discussion on how it all works or even a quick run in the sim.

Toto may yet get his man next season – be bloody typical though if he went from a rocket-ship Red Bull to a rocket-ship Mercedes! 🤦‍♂️

Red Bull tensions reignite as Jos Verstappen withdraws from Legends parade

I wouldn’t describe Jos as a legend, leg end maybe.

I don’t like Jos, he sounds like an utter **** but he does deserve credit that he was a credible F1 driver who was unlucky enough to be teammates with one of the all-time greats. I’ll always remember him for the refueling fire.

but he does deserve credit that he was a credible F1 driver

Was he though? 1997 to 2003 (with gaps) 100 plus starts and what? 20 points maximum?

Edit: Wiki says 107 starts and 17 points, and yet I don’t get invited to parties.

Yes, he was credible. The only competitive car he drove was the Benneton in his rookie year, with Schumacher as his teammate. He also scored points in an Arrows. He never looked like a potential champ, but he wasn’t hopeless either.

TBH that’s good, and Verstappen should have been penalised for using the same word and ‘mongol’ as well a few years back.

Verstappen should be DQ’d.  Multiple infringements then causing a collision to end it for Lando.  What a ****.

I’m looking forward to the highlights but the guys on BBC feed seemed unanimous that the collision was Max’s fault.

Max has been allowed to race unsportingly for far too long. All goes back to ’21 at least.

Gutted for Lando, it should of been Max parking up his car.

He didn’t pull any punches in his post race interview, hopefully the start of some spicy rivalry.

Good to hear Horner talking absolute shite again “plenty of space for Lando out there” 😂

Edit-need to hear Andrea Stella’s interview in full… Sounded like he was laying the blame firmly at the stewards door for letting the behaviour go previously

Well before that, the not moving under braking rule was brought in to stop Max doing it so regularly, early in his F1 career

FFS sorry for the spam but I just realised Max finished ahead of Perez despite having the puncture, extra stop and 10 second penalty.  👏🏻

If Red Bull hope to win the constructors championship they really need Perez to up his game, especially with it turning into a four way fight at the the front.

I may watch the channel four highlights to see how they defend Verstappen or blame Norris.

Any other driver would’ve got points on their licence for that. Moving under braking how many times? Collecting him on the last one then even running him onto the grass when the cars were damaged? He really is an absolute shit

    channel four David Couthard highlights

FTFY, only one opinion coming there.   As said above, F1 have failed time and time again to punish Verstappen and Red Bull for thier arrogance and will to smash other drivers off the track.  No doubt liberty media are currently clapping thier hands at the media attention – and dollars – thier favourite boy is bringing today.

Max was being Max – but Lando was naive.

You can’t do half a pass cleanly wheel to wheel with Max. It’s got to be a clear opportunity. And he’d been trying half moves for many laps before they came to blows.

Luckily the race was recorded so you can watch it again and review that

You can’t do half a pass cleanly wheel to wheel with Max

Does he have special dispensation outside of the rules, I guess he does! 🤣

He has a way of defending – like Senna and Schumacher had. if you want to pass then it has to be decisive.

Yes, they were dirty at times. I’m no fan of Max but that’s how he goes racing.

I so bored of this. Max should be held to the rules just like the rest of the field. After all several of the rules we’re currently saddled with are a result of his woeful driving and defending, and the inconsistencies of the stewards falling over themselves not to hold Max back.

It’s had such a deleterious effect on the sport.

And Horner can Get In The Sea with all his falsehoods backing max up.

    I agree.

But for some reason he hasn’t been held to account and won’t be held to account. So you have to race him on those terms – you can’t just send it and hope for the best as he’d rather crash than give you space.
