    ‘Iceland’s’ luxury mince pie range

Well that’s a challenging thought – Iceland has a luxury range?

The thing that gets me is the constant arse-ing around with the recipe that supermarkets feel they need to get into, Crumble topped? Orange and Spiced Rum?

They still sell the traditional ones alongside the interesting ones, for boring old farts who complain about modern life.

I got overexcited by finding a reduced price pack of scones a while back, only to realise at the last minute that they were choc-chip! what sort of monster thinks anyone wants choc chip scones?

Obviously no-one, that’s why they were reduced. Only an idiot would ever excitedly buy reduced goods without checking what’s inside the container. And no, I didn’t mistakenly buy salted caramel Welshcakes a couple of weeks ago because they were reduced to half price. Salted caramel Welshcakes, wtf is the world coming to? Why do manufacturers insist on messing around with Welshcakes? What’s wrong with good old plain Welshcakes?

    😀

Oh, and back to the main point, I’ve had two boxes of mince pies so far. Both iced. Both excellent.

    That is an ACE t-shirt!

I’m still holding out on the mince pies, for now… once I start, I can’t stop.

Correct. Mince beef. (Full disclosure it’s a Google image, however, it’s what I had for tea yesterday 😁)

When do those t-shirts go on sale??

Commendable restraint. However, the dam is breached now, best stock up 👍

Love the t shirt but more importantly is that office door sign effective at preventing unwanted interruptions and will it work in my office?

Daughter bought some last trip to Morrisons

What have you done to upset her? Theirs are truly terrible this year.

We’ve just had a period of silence in chez BH as it appears that Waitrose have stopped selling the Heston take on the mince pie, complete with a crumble top.

I have to do this every year, get ecclefechan tarts from Sainsbury’s, much better than mince pies.

Your body is going to crave extra fruit at this time of year.

I’d like to see the restaurants and supermarkets offer fruity curries too..

I used to enjoy mince pies. Now not so much. Too sweet.

One of the youngsters in tbe office had to drop something off at his grandparents on the way to work the other day and arrived in the office with a tub of his grandma’s homemade mince pies. They were pretty good.

Chatsworth Farm Shop Luxury ones have been my favourites so far. But pricey

Good reminder to stock up on mincemeat. I already have a bottle of Gluhwein in the cupboard. Also need to stock up on Baileys/ Ballycastle. Trying to hold off until 1st December but that seems a long way off.

I have just fed the Christmas cake some brandy this morning. Think I’ll get a syringe for it as I couldn’t quite manage to pour it into the tiny holes I made so not sure it’s getting right into the cake.

The M&S frangipan version are very nice too. I had some from the farm shop at work and they were as bad as the Morrisons ones.

Anyone add extra brandy to the mincemeat before filling? I bought some brandy mincemeat from Aldi but I can’t taste the booze.

My friend who makes the very best mince pies in the whole world, recommends Robertson’s mincemeat filling.

@Bunnyhop homemade all the way using the Delia recipe and extra alcohol (when she wrote the Christmas book she was a trifle abstemious with the booze).

The recipe makes a huge amount wich keeps for years.

A knob of home made marzipan in the middle before sticking the lid on adds to the fun.

Olio handed over some Iceland standard Mince Pies, not bad at all with a decent hit of alcohol.

Aldi Ballycastle (Baileys) mince pies – nice idea, but pies are not topped with boozy buttercream

Lidl 12 pack of mince pies. Just no. I should have known better when I saw the price. Oversweetened cloying pap. They went to the chickens

Spar luxury mince pies on the other hand are ace. They have a star shaped pastry lid which makes you think that the ration will be off, but it’s perfect.

Just had a Mr Kipling mince pie. Plenty of filling, though it was a bit sweet and didn’t taste of all that much but OMG the pastry!
Sucked the moisture out of my mouth like a scrumpy hangover and mostly tasteless and unsweetened but with a hint of wet cardboard.

I do not recommend. Maybe I should have known better but they did manage to be placed 5th in the gh list this year so I was expecting something decent.

Tesco Finest have done the rounds in the office today and have proven well filled and tasty with decent pastry
