Usually I’d do all my own servicing but my bike needs some TLC before next Wednesday and I’m going away for the bank holiday so it’ll be a squeeze to do it all.

I looked at http://static.evanscycles.com/production/pdf-media/Servicing_pricelist_2018_NoSus.pdf but cannot see whether the below is included and would appreciate any wisdom from STW so I can potentially take the bike tomorrow with the hope they have a slot before Wednesday:

    1) Is brake bleed / top up included?
    2) Will they replace a broken spoke (requires removal of cassette)? (I have the right spoke in hand)
    3) My frame has a very amateurish DIY repair. Is there a risk that they take the bike and then decide my DIY frame repair is “unsafe”?

    Thanks

I have no experience with Evans but based on my experiences working in a bike shop I would say they would do neither of those tasks within that service, there will be labour on top for those.

For point three they may decline to work on the bike depending on the repair and where it is.

Thanks jblewi. Yeah their list price just for a single brake bleed is £25 so I think I was too optimistic. I’m going to do the spoke over breakfast if I can get the cassette off!

I doubt that’ll be included. We’ve got 3 weeks worth of bookings in the workshop too o I’d expect someone popular like Evans to struggle to fit you in before Wednesday. Busiest time of the year for workshop stuff & lots of people again leaving stuff to the last minute (no offence to the OP) but we get people who say “I’m doing (insert 100 mile sportive) tomorrow & I need a full strip down service” who can’t understand why they can’t drop the bike in unbooked at lunchtime & pick it up 2 hours later and then get arsey when you explain they can’t push In front of someone who booked the bike in 3 weeks before for that day.

Ooh, I just had a rant. As said above I’m sure this scenario isn’t the OPs but I just had to let that out 😄

I can beat that, same situation, but the guy expected the mechanic to do it while he watched, there and then, so he knew what to do next time.

In answer to the OP, brake bleeds tend not to be in mid tier services but usually in the top tier, as for the DIY repair, they’ll make a call when they see it I guess.

    IT WASN’T A SPOON

    It wasn’t even a repair TBH 😀

Just to follow up: phone call confirms neither Evans or Cycle Republic service include brake bleeds.
    Spoke replacement is included though.

Regarding the comments about leaving it till the last minute – spoke was broken at Beastway last night. I couldn’t get the cassette off this morning but will get it done.

The whole affair is a little irritating because I was planning to rebuild the wheel soon with a 310g Chinese carbon rim that should be delivered today or early next week.
