In fact, the essential mix has been poor for years but this year looks exceptionally bad

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/essentialmix/tracklistings.shtml

With the exception of Wilson, Wink and a couple of others, it's been a terrible year.

Wilson's mix was excellant. Not really heard much I liked from others i've got from the mixing bowl. Mr Scruff, Herve, Fake blood etcc have all failed to get me excited.

I downloaded a mass of the LGDP mixes. Thats kept me going.

the problem is that the recent essential mixes arent that bad, well some are a bid ordinary, its just that music trends change and they just cant compare to the music that has really effected you in the past.

like back in 1995! these are great!

    Essential Mix – 1995-09-03 – John Digweed.mp3
    Essential Mix – 1995-05-21 – Sasha (part 2).mp3

so many others but i'd be here all night.

i liked sean tyas and gui borrato recently and err wilsons and err another one but forgot which one! i have all this years so far..

who'd of thought i now like some dubstep!

For pure unadulterated anthem bashing, the Jim Masters EM is hard to beat

    http://www.mixesdb.com/db/index.php/1999-12-19_-_Jim_Masters_-_Essential_Mix

But the 1993 David Holmes mix is by far my all time favourite

    Daft Punk E Mix

I must have listened to this about a million times. First year at University of Liverpool. 90mins on a tape, it lived in my walkman.

They played Creams Birthday in 99 and I danced on a table/furniture. I'm clearly old now as I don't dance on tables and I'm in on a friday night.

Some of my favourite EMs… this is gonna date me, but I have fond memories of staying up as a kid in order to tape this stuff – and some of it is very, very evocative of being wide-eyed and excited about music. Over the years, I subsequently lost many of 'em – so praise be for the Tinternet!! 😀

Future Sound of London 1993 (the soundtrack to my A-Levels…).

    David Holmes 1993

    John Digweed 1994

Snap 1994 (yes, that Snap… actually a very good mix of what used to be known as "Trance" – Harthouse, EyeQ etc).

    Massive Attack 1994.

    Laurent Garnier 1994

    Leftfield 1994

DJ Ron 1995 (1st jungle EM, iirc – absolutely smashes it…).

    Portishead 1995

    Jose Padilla 1995

Gilles Peterson, DJ Krush and UFO 1995

    Steve Bridger 1996

    DJ Shadow 2003

    Alex Smoke 2006

    All good mixes, I'll add

    Terry Francis 1998

Simply because I have very fond memories of the Wiggle Parties in the late 90s.

this thread has spurred me into d/ling a load of the above and some other classics to bolster the collection.

    theflatboy

indeed i did for most of them, had to do a rapidshare search for the psychnoauts. most of the ones i didn't have and wanted that have been suggested above were on mixingbowl.

But a little lame on the downloading! Do i download into i-tunes and if so what folder?

    Its my age 😳

Got Jesse Rose ready to rock.

i'm off to bed so short answer is that the downloads from mixingbowl are torrents, which means you need a torrent client that you open the .torrent file in. it then pulls bits of the track from all the people it can find offering it for download. i don't really have time to explain it in detail now, someone else might otherwise i'll do it tomorrow!

No worries……….will do it tomorrow anyhow.

Remember listerning to the FSOL one the first time around. Made a big deal over doing it over an ISDN line.
Just enjoying the last ever Orbital set now, well until this year any way.

Sandra Collins 2004 – my tape's getting knackered, is that around ?

going back to torrents for alek, i only use them as a last resort these days as they're so fiddly. i would first look for the ones you want on that list si the trance hater put up – that's the most straighforward route. 🙂

also, i would like to nominate smokin' jo from around august 2003. that's a belter.

Never been a huge torrent fan to be honest. If its complicated I'll never get round to using it.

Anywhere I can just listen to them without downloading?

    theflatboy

yeah agreed. i think that freshly mixed, which is now mix riot, lets you just stream them from their site. not sure if you need to subscribe to do that or not, but worth a look.
