I have one of the ikea manual sit stand desk, have had it for quite a few years now. I’d like to upgrade to an electric one, the ikea sizes don’t really fit the space I have.

so looking at the flexispot range, with either one of their desktops, or a custom one from worktop express.

i know there have been several threads over the last few years on this and I’m sure I’ve posted on one or two, but now the list of my posts has disappeared (as it has for everyone), I can’t find the threads.

With all the current sales, a two motor option is now in budget, which isn’t that large to be fair, I’m wondering if extending the budget on the electric frame work makes any difference

anyone got any experience of the flexispot electric sit stand desks ? Have they been relatable beyond the warranty :).

also curious if anyone has put a solid wooden worktop on one and whether the additional weight of a 40mm worktop impacts the movement.

I put an oak kitchen top on Maidesite legs. Works well, looks good

    20mm I think not 40mm though

I’ve had a flexi spot dual motor one since 2020 (they seem to have doubled in price!) it’s been faultless. I built my own top for it which is pretty heavy. It’s rated for 100kg or so, and when i built it I tested this by putting my wife (50kg) + top (20kg) on it, so i’d not worry about it!

After a recommendation on here I got a Flexisport during Prime Day or whatever it’s called for £100 off if memory serves.

Very well made, crucially has a one piece desktop, not sections screwed together like most/all cheaper ones.

Also a flexispot here, been absolutely great. I don’t stand enough, but that’s my fault not the desk ;D

I have a live edge oak slab (plus monitor, laptops, mess, etc.) on a Fully frame and no worries about the weight.

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/idasen-underframe-sit-stand-f-table-tp-el-beige-20411982/ fame and your current desk top. That is what I did a few years back and its been faultless (and you should see the junk on my desk it has to lift).

    Thanks all, that’s brilliant.

I’ve just noticed flexispot now do brushless motor options, albeit at the very top of my budget, what does a brushless motor add on a motorised desk.

their range four leg option look super stable 4 leg flexispot desk

Useful thread. I’ve got the same manual crank handle Ikea sit/stand desk and would love an electric upgrade for pure laziness, but struggling to justify a purchase. I’d say I’d save this thread for later but, well….

As above, if you are happy with your current desk top, just buy a frame and re-use the top you already have.

As a desk is a long term purchase, it is worth considering spares and support. I’ve just found out the hard way! There was an electricity outage in our area, and my seven year old desk power supply/controller was fried when the power was restored. The retailer doesn’t carry spares for this model any more, and despite scouring Aliexpress (all the desk hardware is made by the same few manufacturers in China) I can’t get a replacement, because they are supplied with model specific firmware to the retailers.

I have just bought the Ikea Idasen (frame only) as a replacement, and one of the selling points for me was the 10 year guarantee. It is a solid, well built piece of kit.

I’ve got a Lavoro Advance Dual Motor Desk – they are made in Powys and have good guarantees, the motors are made in Sweden and parts are available

The Lavoro motor controllers appear to be by Logicdata, which has been acquired by Jiecang, one of the big Chinese manufacturers. There’s nothing wrong with the kit (every retailer is using stuff from the same set of manufacturers, so it obviously works well) but new products are always being developed and retailers will adopt those, so if buying a new desk, it might be worth considering how long the guarantee is, and what that might mean for future spares availability.
