  • Do some Shimano brakes need a different funnel thread diameter?

I’ve just been going through all Shimano equiped bikes and the funnel didn’t appear to work on newish set of Deores.

I checked that the o ring was removed, etc and everything had worked on the previous two bikes and the following bike. Am I being daft? It wouldn’t be unusual 🙂

I’ve just had another go and I think its more that the funnels thread doesn’t reach the levers thread.

Yes, in a word. I have an adapter, possibly from sjs cycles. Might be easier to buy the correct size funnel though.

Thanks joat, I thought I was being dafter than usual. I did a search but couldn’t see any different choices of funnel.

There’s one for road/gravel levers and one for flat bar levers (and the older non-series hydro drop bar levers) Deore shouldn’t need anything unusual – maybe the first few threads on your funnel are stripped/worn?

    Thats possible too sillyoldman.

I’m going to order a TBS pro funnel with bits for my Tech 3 levers and TRP Slate’s too.

Yes by way of an anecdote. I have some older STI levers that I used a Shitmano funnel with a few times. Fast forward a few years and I bought some new Ultegra STI levers and the old funnel dunt fit – needs an adapter. Probly/possibly the same for flat bar levers…
