i had problems with it jimbo, it didn’t get passed the loading stage, had to cast the whole screen rather than the video directly.

Do all the unconditional Brandan-lovers out there truly believe he is as physically fit as he could be? And I don’t mean if he did a year long stint with the Marines, I just mean as much training as Minnaar for example.

Can you not here the resignation in Claudio’s voice when he talks about Brendan “just being Brendan”?

And yes, being an office-based ‘fat’ (I don’t actually consider myself fat, but let’s just go with it) bastard actually adds to my frustration with him. If I had an ounce of his talent I would be doing my hardest to make sure I was able to use that talent to its maximum.

I want the guy to do it! That’s not being a ‘hater’.

I really hope Brendog isn’t reading this thread and decides to change his training plan for next year because I sure as hell don’t want to see him sat on a turbo-trainer or out on his road bike in the next video he makes. Now that really would be wasting his talent.

He’s out on his road bike a fair bit and pretty quick too. Don’t know how much compared to the over guys though. Maybe he’ll concentrate just on the worlds DH at some point if that’s what he enjoys doing.

is a track like that one is a different kind of fitness though?

I saw a post from minaar on instagram

“one brutal track, my hands just couldnt cope”

and remy metailler says he doesnt race WC DH because he cant hold on for that long.

Rémy Métailler blames lack of race results on arm pump

    Totally dicking about

    innit.

I think some of you are misreading the amount of talent there is in Men’s DH at the moment. At most races the top 20 are separated by less than 10 seconds, and Fairclough is consistently top 20. I’m pretty sure that to be there for as long as he has means that he takes it pretty bloody seriously. Just because he does 3min videos of him dicking about in the woods occasionally does equal “slacker”.

Still nothing on the front page? Pretty shabby guys.

well, as far as I can remember having used this site for years and years it’s never really been about racing, and it’s certainly never been about DH racing, and it’s certainly not a results feed service. There’s Roots and Rain, Dirt, Pink Bike, Vital (off the top of my head) that’ll give you pretty much instantaneous results service if you want it.

Other mountain bike websites are available 😆

I don’t think he deserves this mythos he has.

I don’t think he has a “mythos” above other riders really.

He’s just a very fast racer who also does Rampage and sells a lot of pedals and bits.

He doesn’t even do that many videos.

Can you not here the resignation in Claudio’s voice when he talks about Brendan “just being Brendan”?

No, you are projecting that yourself.

I think the physical fitness required on a lot of recent downhill tracks isn’t pedalling fitness, it’s the head to toe strength endurance required to control a bike equally well at the bottom of the track as at the top. These tracks are so physically demanding that it’s impossible to have the same power and control after 3 minutes as out of the gate, but the closer you can be to 100%, the better you can execute the skill you have. Look how Danny held those last turns with his foot out – I bet last season he wouldn’t have had the strength to execute what his skills were telling him to do at that point.

To me Claudio sounds more disapointed in Neko Mulally’s runs than in Brendogs

I think Claudio is just passionate so don’t read too much into it.

During his run in Andorra it sounded like Claudio had run out of that passion and basically run out of positive things to say about him. Sounded to me like he was resigned to another good, but unspectacular result

Well Greg reckons he is starting testing, big changes but exciting ones so see what happens

Yeah doesn’t give much away about Josh does it, other than he looked blissfully happy to be there, doesn’t look like a Lad about to give it all up.

Greg seems very exited for the future, he’s not hanging up his boots yet!

    So guesses?
    Santa Cruz leaving?
Santa Cruz setting up a different (non-syndicate) team?
Peaty setting up a team, or bringing his own Syndicate to the WC?

Lots of rumours earlier about Loic Bruni joining the SC Syndicate, but has gone quiet recently.

I thought it was in the bag already that Luca Shaw was joining SC syndicate.

Also strong rumors that a big name is going to Canyon. Apparently lots of teams have been chasing Vergier, but I would be surprised if he splits with specialised and Bruni, can’t see either of them jumping ship just yet.

Fitness affects all areas including ability to focus mentally.

In so many sports over the past (say) 30 years the amount of cross training gym work is enormous, just riding your bike isn’t going to be enough to be at the pointy end of the pack.

@Alex A Peaty team or Syndicate would be magic, it’s a lot of coin required though … something with Transition ?

A new Yeti Syndicate team would be pretty exciting.

Lots of rumours earlier about Loic Bruni joining the SC Syndicate, but has gone quiet recently.

Given how much SC has grown since Peaty joined in ’06 and Minnar and Ratty joined in ’08 – I don’t think they’re about to go changing the bait too much, but they need to come up with a fresh approach to it – losing Peaty and possibly Ratty leaves a big hole there.

Will Minnaar go off somewhere else? If he was going to go, now would be the time – losing his longest standing team mate(s) and friend(s) means there’s a lot less to stay for – plus, just perhaps, he’s not as keen on the bike any more – one of the mechanics said something interesting in an off-hand way in Ep7 of the Syndicate (possibly 6) Josh Brycland has never won an international race on the 650b V10, Peaty has never won on a 650b V10 (which is understandabe given the period in his career) and Greg has won once in 2 years, now some very good WC Racers have never won a WC or a Worlds, but Minnaar is the most successful racer in WC history and JB went from a massively dominating season to a pretty terrible on the new bike – lots more going on but the last 2 years have been pretty poor by the standards of the Syndicate.

I’m not sure if Peaty would take a full team or even a little one like the Syndicate on a full WC season without factory backing – there’s no real prize money, the riders largely own their own jersey / short ‘real estate’ but still need paying – I don’t know how it could fund itself – maybe a partnership deal like Gstaad-Scott.

Maybe something as mundane as a more traditional Factory Santa Cruz team, go big like Trek – Peaty and Kathy run it, Minnaar on the team with Luca Shaw and maybe a few less known up and comers, maybe heaven forbid a female rider – I think Tahnee Seagrave would be a good fit.

SC need a rider who will appeal to the Brits, I would wager the UK market is pretty important to them. As great as Loic is I don’t think he’ll sell SC’s to Brits and I’d also wager the French don’t buy many or will ever do so, US brand and far too expensive.

P-J that’s very interesting about the 650b/275 results

    orena45

Uh? Minnaar’s one at least 3 times in the last two years and Josh at least once. (Quick Google) The 650b V10 came out mid 2014 – Josh Bryceland’s winning year – can’t remember but I’m sure he raced the last half of the season on 650b. (Edit: can’t remember if won in the second half or not either admittedly)

Looking at Josh’s palmeres, he has only actually had 2 senior world cup wins. He would have been on the 650b bike when he overjumped that bridge at the world champs.

I think to try and take any statistical evidence of 26 being better than 650b from that is grasping at straws in the extreme.

Bryceland won in Mont Saint Anne last year, which would have been on 650b.

He was the last man to win on 26″ and followed it up winning on 650b.

@ P-jay, I think you miss heard the comment in the syndicate video. He was telling Josh he was the last person to win a WC race on 26″ wheels.

Sorry everyone, ignore my 650b V10 slamming nonsense, I based my ‘research’ on Wikipedia results and mistakenly assumed the 2014 race bike was 26″ because the customer bike was still 26″ at that point.

    As you were.

Steve has been very vocal about how he doesn’t like Enduro.

I would be surprised if Greg moved full time but maybe like Sam Hill, he wants a change to keep it fresh.

Wouldn’t surprise me if there were plans for a factory enduro team from Santa Cruz.

indeed, but yet, there he is…on the start line.

In many ways it makes a lot of sense from Santa Cruz’s perspective in terms of bikes and where their market share is. how many V10 vs Bronsons/Nomads do they shift, I wonder?

Meh, big names from DH have turned up at various enduros and rarely make an impact (possible memories of Blenki doing well at Finale a couple of years ago?)

Well it’s gonna be a fascinating race anyway, even more so since I was riding some of the tracks this summer.

Anyone else see Greg’s comments about not pre-riding and think he’s just getting his excuses in early?

You know you can be banished from all forms of mountain biking for saying such a thing don’t you?
