    Hello

I know a few of you have a Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup machine, I am looking to see if anyone has had the same issue as me!

The lights on the front are indicating that the infuser is not in the machine, even when it is. I think that the switch / position sensor might be broken as it does not park in the right position to take it out for cleaning etc.

As the machine won’t work at the moment and my need fo caffeine is increasing daily I wondered if anyone has any tips for

    a, Fixing the problem
b, Places who might do it for me

I think the model number is ESAM 4200 and its a few years old!

Many thanks for any help the collective can give!!

go to delonghi coffee machine site , engage their live chat , ask about their fixed price servicing.

I had mine done in feb just before covid 19 kicked off but it was a 10 day turn around and cost ,e 110 quid inc collection/delivery

    This any use:

I’ve had an issue with the infuser being stuck at the bottom which I think was because someone powered it off part way through a cycle or something, but I managed to work it out with the help of some of the online advice.

How do I reset my Delonghi Magnifica?
I called customer support, and you accomplish a hard reset by having the machine plugged in, pressing and holding down both the decalcify and ground coffee buttons, unplug the machine for 15 seconds (still holding down the buttons), then replugging the machine into the socket before releasing the buttons.

I’ve had one of those machines for 7 years and I didn’t realise you were supposed to clean the infuser. Just reading the manual now – should probably go and do it!

Out of interest, can you push the infuser up and down when it’s out of the machine by hand? If not it may be the o-ring sticking – silicone grease and new o rins should fix that.

    Thanks for the inputs all!

The carriage can be moved (you can have it turn on a developer mode and use 2 buttons to make it go up and down) it seems to have the full range of movement

I’ll have a go at the hard reset process – thanks for the suggestion I think its different to the one I found on google!

I’ll also contact delonghi for a quote in case all else fails!

    Many thanks!

Mine went last year, and I was quoted £110 minimum for a service (parts would be on top)

I got a new machine from the Delonghi shop on Ebay for £180.

Keep it clean, but servicing is too expensive to be practical.

I think the position sensing on these is a combination of Hall effect sensors and microswitches. Make sure nothing has fallen off the infuser unit (ie a magnet), then make sure that ground coffee hasn’t built up around the top of the travel screw, preventing the infuser from hitting its home position.

Also vaguely remember the test mode will light an LED for each position sensor to help you narrow it down.

Check that the infuser isn ‘t loose. On mine the bolts attaching it to the carriage had worked loose.

February this year it was 110 for all but a chassis swap including collection and delivery. Had it needed a chassis swap (new recon machine essentially ) it was 130

A basic strip and service was 90 quid posted

I got a new infuser and a gearbox…..had issues similar to op. I had already worked out these parts were faulty but the time cost to strip out the gear box it made sense to pay the service cost.

Sorry, didn’t explain very clearly in my last post. It’s the bolts securing the carriage that came loose on mine. You’ll see these when you take the infuser off.

Quick update in case it helps someone else

The live chat was very helpful!

Apparently pressing both the cup buttons does something to reset the infuser mechanism, as soon as I took the tray out and pressed them together with the infuser in, there was a whirring of the infuser moving and the lights error lights went out

I’m now enjoying my first cup of coffee from the machine in 2 months!

Thanks to the Singletrack Hive mind!!
