    morning, with christmas coming im looking for fun games to play with my boys 7 and 9.

    any form of game where there is a winner / loser turns into a massive fight and is frankly not worth even trying. ie. villainous

    coiperative type games like heroquest have faired much better. you know ones where you have to beat the game rather than each other.

    what is out there thats worth a look?

    my son and his mates love munchkin. It’s competitive but not in a toxic monopoly way..

    Similar aged here & we’ve been enjoying outfoxed for the last year or so.

    Very family friendly but possibly too young depending on what they’re into

    My 5 year old loves hoot owl hoot, though it may be a bit too easy. As an adult I love pandemic but not sure the target age.

    Island, Desert and Sky.

    Pandemic is a solid game, but if the problem is that they don’t like to lose then it’s the wrong choice. They will be beaten by the game, a lot.

    I have three games delvelopent.

    1. WarKrieg this is by my Partness son. Playing later today with refining the instructions. Can be played as two CO-OP but the opposition is another human.

    Would anyone be interested in playing (beta test).

    2. A dice managed artillery game.

    3. A cycling/racing game with vectors.

    Or just playing a game of Worms Reforcements on DosBox and gain gain up on someone or the computer:-)

    Carcassonne – my kids (and I) love it. Can be e cooperative or competitive.

    The basic game is ace, but there’s also loads of expansion packs.

    Forbidden Island and Roll for Adventure spring to mind as non complex cooperative games.

    Forbidden Sky is my fav of the Forbidden series. I mean it has a rocket that lights up and makes a rocket noise when you create a circuit. What’s not to love.

    Familiar Tales or Stuffed Fables, although they’re campaign games.

    Flashpoint is a fun co-operative, also Castle Panic and Zombie 15

    Maybe something like King of Monster Island could be worth looking at (more expensive though) as you can play co-op and then eventually go back to competitive as they get better at managing having a winner/loser amongst them but with a game they’re more familiar with at that point? Or you could forever play co-op too haha

    Carcassonne – my kids (and I) love it. Can be e cooperative or competitive.

    The basic game is ace, but there’s also loads of expansion packs.

    I’d consider the first expansion – Inns and Cathedrals – as essential, it’s a ton more tiles with a slight rule change you could easily ignore. The second – Traders and Builders – adds a degree of complexity. Beyond that it’s diminishing returns, there’s some awful expansions. I have one of the Big Box editions, beyond I&C the rest don’t get a look-in.
