Clarks clout v deore brakes ?+ how much more to get noticeably better braking?

As above really.
I need some new brakes and always look for value rather than bling. Are the clouts and deores similar in stopping power ( 2 pots) …I ask as the clouts are considerably cheaper but I do need a good brake for Devon hills with sometimes loaded panniers.
I recently bought some bargain M6000’s from Taiwan (£80 all-in ) but they’re way more now.
I am happy with them but obviously the price of the clouts is appealing ( under £50 all in incl discs)
My max disc size up front is 180 so I can’t get more power that way.
The second question was how much do you have to spent to get noticeably better braking than recent deore 2 pots ?

Not got the specific answer, but I’ve used a fair few sets of the Clarks M2 vs basic Deores, and they’re just as good, if not better. They don’t weep in the way Shimano do, long-term. Easy to set up, bleed, and the kit contains all you need.

As the Clouts are supposed to be more powerful than the M2s, I’d tentatively say yes. I’ve been looking at them myself and I’d happily use them.

As to your second point: not sure.

clark m4 brakes if you can find them.

I’d suggest a 4-pot should give you more stopping power, so if you can find a cheap set then that would be good. Why can’t you go up a rotor size to 200mm?

Running clouts on mine and power seems fine for a 2 pot brake.

M4’s are non existent right now so that’s a no go.

Clouts arent as good as M2’s IMO, I’ve set up both on my wife’s and sister in law’s bikes. The Clout also has awkward fittings that there is only one barb for in the Clarks universal bleed kit, which you WILL need as the hoses are long enough for one of those Thorn 4 seater tandems.
