I’m staying for a few days in Carcassonne, and I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a road bike route?

I did a ride up to Mont Nore (sp?) the other day, and a somewhat gentler, more rolling ride across to Limoux and back today. What else is good? Or redo the Mont Nore route in reverse?

    Thanks

Been years since I was on holiday around there, we stayed in Argens-Minervois. I can remember doing a ride South from there, on the D212, through Lagrasse, onto the D3 to Monze, and then turning right up some brutally steep single carriage road passed Château de Miramont and then down the other side and back to the villa.

I was hopelessly over geared on that holiday and never made it as far as Pic de Nore. I did a few rides up the valleys nearby though, taking in Citou, Cassagnoles and Minerve. Basically, head up a valley, turn left or right, come back down the next one, loop back.

Which way did you go up mont nore? Tour the france did it from mzamet nice but the part after the initial kick going into the forest is quite hard at least there is shade. Would consider doing it both ways and count on a windy summet.

Abbaye de Fontfroide is worth a visit. You should be able to put together a circular route using the Corbieres and maybe even to the coast.

Or just have a bimble down the Canal towpath and head off into the Minervois.

@hofnar – Carcassonne along the Canal-du-Midi for a bit, then North towards Lastours, Pradelles-Cabardes, stopped for lunch there, then up the little road to the mast at the top, back down to Pradelles, and then down the other way into Villeneuve-Minervois, and then back along the main road to C.
