Well I hope you all had your snooze function set for when my sonorous tones lulled you to sleep. 🙂

I only heard the first bit as I had to get the kids up for school.
    Was there anymore?

Craig was on again later and made some really good points about the location (there’s a cycling circuit there already; it’s home to a car boot sale which trashes large areas of the grass). There was a woman on who plays in a brass band and said that they’ve now started charging them to use bandstands. If I was part of the Parks and Events team my toes would be curling.

Sadly now it’s turned into a load of the usual cliched bollocks about cyclists jumping red lights and wearing stretchy weird clothes. Because, y’know, we’re all a homogenous mass, and that.

When pressed by Denning, the Council stated that a wet summer, coupled with budget cuts, meant that they weren’t prepared to put cycling events on and risk damage to facilities. When asked whether the suspension would also apply to football and rugby, the Council unsurprisingly confirmed that they’d be going ahead as normal.

I recall entering a cross race one sunny but soggy novemeber that took place on a large set of playing fields in the south west. The local council apparently took umbrage at the state of the grass afterwards. The races ran alongside two of the slidiest and muddiest rugby matches I have seen for a long time. I bet they never took that stand with the rugby league organiser. 👿

They play rugby league in the south west? though it was all union down there 😉

Julianwilson, the official line is that rugby and football pay more than CX. Thus justifying a £2500 damage bond. I would love to see their working on that one.

I gather Chipps has been out and about with a camera. Here’s his cross race, which took place this January. Pssssquirch.

And here’s the course now, after no reinstatement work whatsoever.

And that’s also after holding another race there in July.

Mr A, how come you sound knowledgeable, coherent and eloquent when on the radio rather than a mumbling hoodie IRL? 🙂

Conham River CX is on the 25 December thanks to the Severn Road Club.

    🙂

I know : how about the NHS sponsor the CX series and pay the council the ridiculous rider levy.
After all we are saving the NHS obesity and related illness money.

Oh yeah and as for that article stating that the ban is ‘only temporary’ well they tried the same thing last year.

Good call, Bristol. Should hopefully mean BRT2 is dead in the water too.

Here he is in 1979 helping to build the Saltford section of the Railway Path. Red trousers just out of shot.
